matt08
I would like to know where to start to install a Mac OS deal boot with windows 10 installed on a dell inspiron M5040. Specs: http://www.cnet.com/products/dell-inspiron-m5040-15-6-e-450-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-4-gb-ram-500-gb-hdd/specs/ More specs: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201104-7785/components/ http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201104-7785/ Also my Ram is upgraded to 8GB. I would like to get some information on what Mac os is compatible, moreover what steps would I have to take to install the os and furthermore is it possible to even implement. Cheers. 0000-1248
Hi matt08, welcome to the Forums! First off, there are two installation methods that will work with your AMD processor. You could install a distro (iAtkos, Niresh, Yosemite Zone etc.) which will have AMD Kernel support by default. There are some downsides to distros, however. Firstly, distros are modified more than necessary (for your AMD CPU, at least) so stability may be an issue (it could be anyway, I suppose on AMD). Distros are also illegal copies of Mac OS X! The upsides to distros though, are that you don't need to have OS X running in VirtualBox or on a real Mac or Hackintosh to create an installer. Alternatively, you could do a vanilla install of OS X but using the AMD Kernel. The downside here, is that to create an installer, you need to have a Mac or Hackintosh or OS X in VirtualBox (which ironically requires a distro to do ). I would recommend the latter, as you will probably have less problems. Here is the link to a Patched Kernel (Vanilla install only): http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/309765-amd-os-x-el-capitan-1011-kernel-testing-release-for-help-use-the-help-topic/page-3?do=findComment&comment=2195566 Here is the link to a Vanilla install guide: http://osxarena.com/2015/10/guide-install-el-capitan-on-hackintosh-pc-with-chameleon-bootloader-vanilla-installation-method/ Here is the link to a Distro install guide: http://www.macbreaker.com/2014/11/how-to-install-os-x-yosemite-on-your-pc-with-yosemite-zone.html Here is the link to OS X in VirtualBox guide: http://www.macbreaker.com/2015/01/virtualbox-yosemite-zone.html Or if those methods are too complicated and you don't mind running Mac OS X Lion, here is a guide: http://www.macbreaker.com/2013/07/a-look-at-amd-hackintoshing-mac-os-x.html Note: to get the AMD Processor to work you need to add the following boot flags: cpus=1 (possibly), arch=x86_64, -force64 (possibly). Don't include the (possibly) when typing. Note: To apply the custom kernel to the USB, put the kernel on the root of the drive, rename it to 'AMDKernel' without the '' and use this flag: kernel=AMDKernel. Hope I could help! - Matt P.S. Once you get OS X installed, come back here and I will help you get the rest of the drivers for your computer in order
matt08
Thank you for all of the great information you have provided, I have been doing some quick research and have gone with the distro install. I have so far partitioned my hard-drive and am following the current distro guide you have provided above. Also I am just in the middle of formatting my USB stick using "transmac" with the DMG file. One question: From your first note: "Note: to get the AMD Processor to work you need to add the following boot flags: cpus=1 (possibly), arch=x86_64, -force64 (possibly). Don't include the (possibly) when typing." would this apply to the distro install? Many thanks.
0000-1248
I'm not entirely sure to be honest (I've only used a distro once!) I've heard about an AMD=Yes flag, but I'm not really sure if it exists. Give it a go, and I suppose we'll find out. - Matt
matt08
Used the /amd64 flag seems to have worked. I have so far installed Yosemite Zone OSX to the drive it has done a restart, now I have booted to the partition. Just waiting for the end part of the install, where you type in the username and select the time zone etc. Its taking its time. : / One last point I did select the customize option to add battery monitoring. So far: http://s10.postimg.org/zfp5n8q8p/IMG_20160131_004412.jpg The odd thing is numerous videos that I have watched show this part being quite quick? They must be video editing, I hope. matt08
Could not get it to work, it got stuck. I have now restored my windows 10 boot records back to normal again after getting an error message, it didn't take to long around 20 mins followed the instructions from: http://www.think-like-a-computer.com/2015/04/17/boot-bcd-0xc000000f-windows-7/
0000-1248
Can you use -v and take a picture of where it gets stuck for me? Most problems are quite easy to fix! - Matt
matt08
Will try again today. I have just reformatted the partition and will do a new install, without selecting any customization options. I did read the article from: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-lion-desktop-support/101945-first-hackintosh-stuck-apple-logo-screen.htmlsounded sort of the same I used the flag: "-v -x PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No" and it was showing some errors on Bluetooth, probably some other's but didn't take an image, also it did manage to boot into safe mode to a very low pixel login screen. matt08
I think I will give up on the prospect of creating a mackintosh machine, due to it giving so many errors and problems. The main reason I wanted to create one was because I currently use a MAC at work for web development, using some of the MAC's in built app's which are currently very handy to use. moreover I will most likely buy a new macintosh computer in the future. moving forward: right now I will switch back to using Linux for development, as windows sucks unless your using ASP.NET. Many thanks for the help you have provided & all the best for the future. - 0000-1248

If you ever want to try it again, ask spakk or one of the other hard-core AMD users on this forum. Or, for the easy route, get an intel system Best of luck, - Matt
