iTunes videos not playing; songs play OK

I have El Capitan 10.11.2 up and running on a test partition, and have resolved some of my post-installation issues (including USB, Ethernet and Audio).  In iTunes, however, I am unable to play any of my iTunes Store-downloaded videos.  All I get is a black screen, the time counter goes nowhere from the last saved timepoint, and don't even get any audio playing.  Songs in the Music library play without any problems.

Whatever is happening seems to be isolated to iTunes.  YouTube videos will play in Safari OOB, and tvguide.com video clips will play after installing Adobe Flash Player.  The DVD Player app even works! (something I could never get to work in SL or Mav.)

Since iTunes is bundled with El Capitan, it would have to be using native kexts for video playback.  Any ideas as to what might need patching to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

I do have a similar issue with my iTunes video playback. It starts normally at first but then will start to have hickups for some short period, before the video playback totally stops (hangs).

If this happens, I even have to kill iTunes, no way to get back.

So, although not exactly the same, I would think there're some parallels with your findings, although my HW setup differs completely form yours.

Some idea anyone?

Hey guys, iTunes only shows SD version of movie or etc downloaded from iTunes stores. you need HDCP enabled device to play iTunes HD content, because i think its been a while that apple change it in iTunes so it only works on apple device only and only apple Monitors. but there is a workaround that i didn't test it but you can if you like. You need to buy HDCP box.

I don't know if anyone work on patches.

If that's what's at issue in my case, why wouldn't I see some error message to that effect? Simply having the player window do nothing is a rather strange (not to mention unhelpful) way of enforcing HDCP.  If the DVD Player app (also bundled w/El Capitan) is working, why not iTunes??  Just doesn't make sense!

Its a widely known issue that has been around for a very, very long time. I doubt anyone has figured out why this happens.
