Firewire's not working. Card is not dead! (yosemite update maybe killed it?)

Hi friends,

So the other day i installed the newest updates for Yosemite. A bunch of things broke, but i got them all fixed, except firewire's not working. In System Report, it says 'No Firewire ports Available', and it won't detect my Apogee Ensemble FW audio interface.

I know the card isn't dead bc in Windows, windows recognizes not only the card but the device i have plugged in (Apogee Ensemble FW Audio Interface - mac only)

So the card seems fine. i tried different cables and ports on the card and ports on the ensemble.

I also installed a fresh copy of Yosemite on another SSD and it's not working in that one either. I feel like maybe the software update from Apple killed the FireWire?

Any ideas?

anybody? this is driving me nuts. the first time i installed Yosemite it worked fine. then it stopped. i did download OS updates then..

i thought that might be it, so i reinstalled, the same way i did before. still no firewire!

i don't think the card is dead, bc windows recognizes the card connected, and even sees my Apogee Ensemble FW audio interface. though the Ensemble is mac-only so no way to test if it can truly work. unless it's a BIOS setting? but i'm not doing anything differently from before. this is driving me bats.

ok the card definitely works in windows! i found an external fw hard drive. i have no idea why it isn't showing up in Yosemite. Maybe BIOS setting? this is driving me nuts. i have the settings the same as i always do. and when i installed it before, it worked.

any ideas?
