RePete222
Hello, I am attempting to upgrade my AMD desktop Hack (specs in sig) from Snow Leopard to El Capitan. I have been running my Snow Leopard system successfully using Chameleon as the bootloader, and am now wanting to make the jump to El Capitan. I have built my El Capitan install USB in accordance with Shaneee's guide video posted on this site, but can't get Enoch installed there. When I run the Enoch installer, it gets all the way to the end and then puts up the message: "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." Not very specific, is it?! Is there something in the Enoch installer script that requires it to be run on a newer OS than Snow Leopard? My only other available platform to build an Install USB from, besides Snow Leopard, is Windows 7. About a year ago, I tried upgrading to Mavericks, but ran into some post-installation issues I was unable to solve, so I abandoned that effort. I might be able to build a barebones Mav system as an intermediate platform (still have the Mav install app), but would prefer not to if I can help it. I am attaching some of the system.log messages produced when running the Enoch installer. When I tried installing an older version of Chameleon to the USB Install volume, I get a panic loop trying to boot from it. Any ideas? Thanks, Pete Enoch Install system log msgs.txt Edit: Re-upload log extract to include linebreaks.
RePete222
What options, if any, did you choose during the Enoch installation process? What's the partition scheme used on your USB key? I used a GPT partition scheme on the USB key. As for options, I went with the defaults selected by the Installer. I did check over the selected options, and the only one of any real install-time significance was the install location. I went with the default location (as opposed to the install in the ESP option). Just to clarify, this is an Enoch install-time error, not a boot-time error: The USB key is not yet bootable.
RePete222
I tried cloning my SL boot volume and installing Enoch to the cloned drive--still get the error. So, I broke down and resurrected my Mav installer from my TM archives, and got a barebones Mav system up and running. I was then able to run the Enoch installer from Mav, without errors. Apparently, the Enoch installer does not work consistently from SL--at least not on my hardware. Now, to get the ElCap installer to boot...
