distro
Hi everyone, I have audio & AppleHDA working on my hackintosh (Toleda's Clover script & CodecCommander), so "no audio" is not the issue here. I've searched around but couldn't find any threads about this. I'm mostly concerned about how VoodoHDA and an AppleHDA patch compare with respect to usability, stability, and most importantly, sound quality. Cheers! llamafilm
Setting up my Hackintosh for the first time, I'm trying to decide whether to use VoodooHDA or AppleHDA. I have read reports from users who are happy with both. From reading the forums, it sounds like most people prefer AppleHDA, and choose Voodoo as a backup if they can't get it working. Is AppleHDA preferred for some reason?
Slice
AppleHDA has higher volume because of non-linear boosting. If you don't care about intermodulates harmonics this is your choice. Another thing is OSX updates. VoodooHDA works always. AppleHDA must be corrected with every update.
marco.pisellonio80
Furthermore, Voodoo matches more audio codec than AppleHDA, it could be a solution where there is an unsupported codec. I read somewere (maybe Rehabman) that AppleHDA can (in theory) be patched for every audio codec, but for some of them could be very hard or almost impossible. Correct me if I'm wrong. I've been struggling for days with AppleHDA, but I think I'm going to give up and try Voodoo now.

Or is that the same as AppleHDA, as it patches AppleHDA for you. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/311293-applealc-—-dynamic-applehda-patching/
llamafilm
Yes, I've tried AppleALC, and got the same result as patching AppleHDA. I think it's just a different way of doing the same thing. At this point, I'm thinking of just buying a USB card, because VoodooHDA isn't working either.
