Yosemite 10.10.5 Post Issues

So as my first post, I will say that I used another method of installation from some other website with a name that we shall not speak of (i just read the newcomer section about such other sites).

This might be a little long of a post, but since no one here knows anything of my system I shall give a little background.

I built this with a buddy (nearly identical setups) in 2009 and after much trial and error we got everything working on a setup that i guess not many people support/use.

The system is:

EVGA P55 SLI Motherboard (original bios that came with the board, never updated).

2.79 GHz Intel i7-860 Processor

8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Memory (updated 2 years ago)

XFX Radeon HD AMD 6870 1024 MB GPU (installed 3 years ago)

4 Hard drives (1x 10.6.8 SL working install, 1 Media drive, 1 Windows 7 working install, Yosemite Drive almost fully working install).

700W OCZ Power Supply

Ok I think thats the basics of my setup.

Installing Yosemite as a fresh install with all other internal drives removed (just in case!) worked with the USB/Clover method, reboot to finish OSX Setup, installed with "Some other bad software" (I know this isnt supported, it is only for reference of how I installed. I am open to another installation method as i have nothing on the computer yet besides OSX).

What this installs is:

3rd Party SATA

EvOreboot

FakeSMC v6.18.1394

NullCPUPowerManagement

Chimera v4.1.0 Bootloader

AppleIntelE1000e v2.4.14 (Ethernet Driver)

So things seem to be working "OK" and by that I mean, it boots and shuts down with no forseeable problems in the process. I left the computer running for an hour and nothing seems to show in console out of the ordinary except screensaver and login window logs.

Now here is where it gets tricky. I have no onboard audio, let's get to that later since that's apparently a fun little adventure to get working.

System Profiler sees my GPU as Radeon HD 6xxx. This is with GraphicsEnabler=No in my boot flags. Ethernet works this way.

I change GraphicsEnabler=Yes and restart. System Profiler correctly sees the GPU as Radeon HD 6870. Ethernet is broken. A bunch of log stuff that I don't understand is present.

I am pretty stumped as I know a decent amount about this Hackintosh process, but that was a few years ago and I am not sure of the best way to proceed.

Thanks for any help in advance, and if you need more info pls let me know!

Edit: I removed the name of previous installation method, sorry.

Hangten,

Thanks for the info. It took me a bit of a read to try and grasp this process as it is pretty different than what I am used to.

So I installed Yosemite and used Vietnam to install Chameleon and Chameleon Wizard after that to make some small edits.

I think everything is working ok for now, but a few questions...

My model identifier is showing as an iMac11,1 27 inch. Is this ok for my setup?

Also audio is not working so I am not sure what to do here.

System Profiler sees my GPU as Radeon HD 6xxx. This is with GraphicsEnabler=No in my boot flags. Is there a way to get this to show as the correct 6870 card?

SMBIOS should be iMac(edit my bad thought you were on X58) you can generate one using Chameleon wizard . From what remember owning a ATI HD 4850 you needed to have the right boot loader with your cards ID and that was using Chameleon version xxxx or what ever was most recent. Not all Chameleons could allow the GPU to be correctly identified.

Radeon HD AMD 6870 I believe at the time was one of the easiest cards to get to work you also selected to frame buffer  for the particular card and added that to Chameleon.

If I come across the thread I will post it so you can get it corrected.

Posted the link in the direction so you can learn what I mean, my advice is to not give up you will get it eventually. Its not uncommon to have to do kext edits when ever you update and so on. Get use to learning with every new update it seems.

Ok thanks man I really appreciate it.

How important is the system definition to the system? I remember that under 10.6.8 I was running Mac Pro 4.1 for the longest time with no issues. Also with the 6870 I had to use a patched ATY_Init fix.

The audio drives me a little nuts because I had it working with VoodooHDA under 10.6.8 but now VooDooHDA is horrible and has all sorts of noise coming from the speakers. Worst case is I buy a sound card but I would rather not buy anything at the moment.

Also while writing this I booted up my hack and it seems that the ethernet is not working today, as it was last night, and that the background image on one of my screens reverted back to the stock image, while the other remained to what i changed last night.

I changed it back and SHUTDOWN and REBOOTED and the background remained the same, but ethernet was still broken.

I RESTARTED instead of shutdown and the background image changed back to default image and ethernet works. what is going on here???!?

Edit: I am posting my boot plist info here to see if maybe that helps with anything.

Ok So the ethernet part is weird, the kext got removed somehow, so I reinstalled it and ethernet works again.

The background image changing I guess is an issue on all Macs, not just hackintoshes which I was able to fix by disabling "Desktops have their own Spaces" under the Mission Control settings. I had 21 desktops since it was making a new one every reboot! Yikes!

I've ran geekbench and the best scores are coming up with profiles Mac Pro 4,1 and iMac 11,3 however under both of these profiles it seems that my speedstep is not working. When I test using DPCI Manager this is what I see. I am not sure this is working correctly.
