Hello all,

My daughter wants her Envy 4-1115dx dual boot with Windows 10 and El Capitan 10.11.1, so I used the opportunity to document how I dual boot this laptop. This one is exactly the same my Envy 4-1117nr and so many other HP envy with HD4000 - i5-3317u.

1. I replaced her Ralink Wifi with BCM943225HMB 4357 wifi and 217d bluetooth.

2. To upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 because of some stupid update failures, I had to create a new media win 8.1 USB installer -  Re-Installed fresh 8.1 and update straight to Windows 10 without any problems.

3. I used Windows 10 to create the El Capitan USB installer in case some newbies don't have a Mac handy. I'll post more videos as I go.

- Use Windows 10 to check device ids and RW Everything to extract ACPI tables (DSDT and SSDTs)

Use Windows 10 to create El Capitan USB Installer with BootDiskUtility - Must have El Capitan 10.11 or 10.11.1 app or InstallESD.dmg

Install El Capitan to External USB hard drive then restore to internal hard drive.

How to reformat EFI partition for Clover to boot - I couldn't boot from Clover because the Windows UEFI installer created a dos partition that's not FAT32.

How to patch DSDT on Envy 4-1115dx

How to generate SSDT using ssdtPRGen.sh from Piker-Alpha: Make sure you compile all the original SSDTs and put them together with this SSDT in the ACPI/patched folder for the powermanagement to work well... make sure the sortedorder in Clover config.plist has these files names.

Cheers,

Louis
