Cintiq Companion 2 M.2 SSD NVMe Support

Hello Everyone!

First post in this forum so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place.  If anyone has time, please confirm the following for model DTHW1310P-I7 256GB with the broadwell i7-5557U processor:

The following link shows that an M.2 SSD is installed:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7W9gLfzIyGI/VPGdXI1i3-I/AAAAAAAAYa0/QapnBvExwX8/s1600/DSC04142.JPG

Looking at the pinout of the M.2 slot on the motherboard, it appears to correlate with the definition of an Type B M.2 slot (6 pins wide on edge after key indent). The following link illustrates the different types of M.2 slots:

http://rog.asus.com/313352014/labels/guides/buying-an-m-2-ssd-how-to-tell-which-is-which/

However! According to a contributor in another forum, the SSD that is installed by default is the following model:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XHLM174/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&tag=hardfocom-20

...and a contributor in yet another forum identified the default installed SSD as this model:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4HM2B19968

So, looking at these two SSDs' pinouts, it seems that the type "B & M" M.2 SSDs are compatible with the CC2. The reason why this is important is because there are M.2 SSDs that take advantage of the M.2 slots' PCIe 3.0 capabilities, that is, if it is enabled by the manufacturer. This one is capable of 2500MBps reads and 1500MBps writes if all 4 PCIe 3.0 lanes are enabled in the M.2 slot:

Can anyone confirm whether any PCIe lanes are enabled in the M.2 slot of the CC2? Additionally, does it support NVMe?

I don't own this device yet... I attached a screenshot of the bios boot menu that I found in another forum.  Hopefully it will provide some clues.

i need your bios file to check is an nvme ssd is bootable on your laptop...

the samsung ssd will work on your laptop, thats not the problem!

just if you laptop can boot from nvme ssd or not is the key...

if the laptop is not able to boot from (bios leaks nvme efi drivers), you can use another hdd/ssd/usb whatever you can boot from, with any boot loader like clover with nvme efi driver, to boot from your hdd...

windows and OS X have nvme support, so you can use your drive...

just nvme in OS X isn't tested so far...

Cheers :-)

PS: if you haven't nvme drivers inside your bios, they can be modded into bios file... so there should not be a big problem...

im just waiting for my side, that any notebook vendor brings nvme supported notebook out... to extract the nvme modules from bios...

We have already nvme modules from desktop boards, but i think its maybe better to use some from notebooks... because desktop board bioses are extremely oem edited... and notebooks doesn't have that much oem edited bioses... there just dmi/static/animationlogo/acpitables/modules oem changes... (thats not much as on desktops)

Cheers :-)

Thanks folks,

@Hangten thanks for trying! That particular SSD won't be released until 11/1/2015.  I haven't bought the Cintiq Companion 2 yet, just doing my research beforehand.  I'll go ahead and purchase it along with the following two M.2 SSDs:

Samsung SM951 512GB AHCI

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VELDBJ6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A3AHFWUNORUSXK

Samsung 950PRO 512GB NVMe

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01639694M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_4&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I'll try both and post my findings in a few weeks.  @Ramalama, when I get the device I'll attempt to dump the bios and maybe you can teach me or point me towards a tutorial that will show me how to make sense of it.  I can work with Linux decently if that helps.

Nope, linux doesn't help for bios mods/flashes :-)

Windows only for bios modding tutorials :-)

And i don't wanna do a tutorial, because on win-raid is everything well explained :-)

I just can mod the bios if its needed, because i did already often and know exactly how etc...

Just you are almost out of luck is you have Phoenix, Award... because im only modding AMI bioses...

The AHCI version will work anyway, without any biosmodding... you don't need to worry about...

Just the NVME version is a question here :-)

Cheers :-)
