[EDIT: Sorry for the obvious fail - I put 'mid 2014' as that is when I bought the machine, about mac lists as late 2013 model. Apologies.]

I am trying to learn how to make some small modifications to the OS X kernel sources. I successfully build XNU version xnu-2782.10.72 from here (http://opensource.apple.com/tarballs/xnu/) using these instructions (https://corporatewolfe.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/compiling-xnu-kernel-on-os-x-10-10-yosemite/) and this 'make' command:

make TARGET_CONFIGS="RELEASE X86_64H NONE" SDKROOT=macosx all

I attempt to boot with that kernel on my late 2013 Macbook pro retina. However, upon booting into that kernel I get the cross-out "prohibitory" sign after the bar under the apple fills up just a little bit. This is fixable by resetting nvram, booting into recovery partition, and touching /System/Library/Extensions.

Does anyone have any experience getting a particular version of the Yosemite kernel sources to compile and boot successfully on a 2014 Macbook pro retina (or related macbook pro)?

Box stats are attached.
