Hi there folks,

I've found an old Sempron 2800+ machine in the garbage depot of my city, I was curious, so i took it and after a loooooooooooooooong cleaning with gloves  :P

I connected it to the power and BOOM it worked launching winzoz 7!

I've removed 2 faulty dvd drives and a six gig drive <_< throwing those back again to the garbage.

this is my first AMD hack

I know that it's old and probably slower than most of modern smartphone but I'm doing this for fun and to remember the good old times! :)

Specs are:

Mobo     Asrock K8Upgrade-NF3

CPU       Sempron 2800+ 1.60 ghz

GPU       GeForce FX 5200 128mb ATI 9250 (QE-CI not supported) that i'll replace

RAM       2x 512mb 400mhz

HDD       IDE 160GB Maxtor

AUDIO    ALC850 Ac97

LAN        RTL8201CL 10/100

I've installed MacOsX 10.4.4 using MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso but I would like to run the latest version of tiger (10.4.11)

So I updated using the combo and replaced the mach_kernel back to the root of the drive and replaced all the needed kexts and loginwindow to coreservices

but the spoiler is the result, it isn't a Kernel Panic, it just stops there, even in safe, obviously i'm booting with -f

Any kind of help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks

P.s.

Maybe 10.4.11 needs an updated kernel?

I found some links....

but megaupload and similars are down from years :P

HI,

In the past i tried to update an old PC with Tiger ( from 10.4.4 to 10.4.11 ) and i get same Kernel panic ... it seems hard to find a solution

However consider to find/use a distro with Tiger 10.4.11

if Tiger is not a priority, why don't try with Leopard which is more easy to fix ... eventually issues .

Hi there pippo,

Thanks for answering!

But i'd like to keep using Tiger and that distro seems pretty clean and almost untouched, that's why i'd like to update it instead of using another one...

Dude,

This made me laugh an cry at the same time.

Sempron is AMD right? I don't think anyone fixed a kernel before Snow Leopard for AMD.

I have no idea on this one, but i want to applaud you on your efforts, and hope someone has a solution.

I'm happy to make you smile and cry mate!

But are you serious?

The system was running very good with a patched kernel on 10.4.4 and there are links for patched kernels everywhere in the forum, they are just posted on websites that are no more online, like rapidshare and megaupload...   :P

Hi JahStories

Are you using the kernel from the distro?

Tried AnV's patched one here? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/139297-anv-mac-os-x-10411-xnu-7922520-kernel-tiger/

Also just incase this happens:

okay I have kinda a weird problem....everything goes fine til right near the end of the update, at this point I don't get a reboot option everything on the screen just disappears except the top bar and none of the menu's are clickable in that, is it possible that this is because I'm running an AMD?

One more thing:

There is a topic on Jas 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 (should apply to 10.4.4 as well)

@Duran

Thanks!!!

I'm trying the AnV's kernel and it seems to load a little bit more but it still hangs on this screen...

Not loading the usb 1.0 and 2.0 kexts and getting stuck at diskarb...

P.s.

this should be the first boot after the combo update...

Might be a long shot as I don't think it is the source of the problem (beside the IDE controller that needs to be patched, maybe?)

Have you tried replacing the following kexts:

Apple.SMBIOS.kext

IOATAFamily.kext

Then boot into Single user and repair permissions:

/sbin/fsck -y
/sbin/mount -uw /
/sbin/autodiskmount -va
/usr/sbin/diskutil repairPermissions /

i'm reinstalling right now, I'll try and report back, thanks for helping ;)

Indeed, I did not tried replacing ioatafamily, it may help, lets see...

if that will not work i'll try using a sata drive...

edit:

no ahci mode in bios so i thinks that sata is a no go...

This is the latest apparently unsuccessful update, this time did it using pacifist, and always using the AnV kernel...

it seems to load everything but it doesn't launch the system getting stuck at this screen:
