Hi,

Well, did some reading on this, here is the article: http://blog.premiumusb.com/2011/02/why-flash-drive-get-hot/

Questions that came up:

- Does the problem occur in another OS like Windows?

- Does it occur on 1 specific USB port, or on all of them?

- Does this happen with all USB drives, or just one in particular?

- Can you provide some information about the Flash Drive?

- Does this also happen when the Flash Drive is idle? So no reading/writing files?

They are MicroCenter 8GB flash drives just sitting idle and not being recognized by El Capitan that I formatted for GPT/journeled HFS+ format.

1 Yosemite Installer USB with Clover

2 El Capitan 10.11 DP1 Installer with Clover.

3 Windows 10 USB installer. - stays little cooler

all made by Phison Electronics Corp.

I had to re-install a couple of kexts to solve El Capitan not even seeing the GPT/HFS formatted drives.

I normally plug them into the top of case 3.0 ports for ease of access.

I tried the open USB ports on Motherboard and they still get warm at idle.

USB 2.0 drives do not have this problem also from MicroCenter and made by Phison Electronics Corp.

I did not notice windows having the USB installer get warm when Installing Windows 10.

The drive I created to Install Windows 10 seems be a little cooler in El Capitan.
