Like lots of folks, I had an old PowerMac G5 fom the 2005 era and I decided to build a great hack with this case. I started by remove the entire contents of the G5 (motherboard, power supply, most of the standoffs on the back that supported the original G5 parts, etc)

I saved the top shelf, the power supply case and the disk mounting hardware.

I then installled the 7 PCI slot mounting obtained from MountainMods, com to allow installing an ATX motherboard

This then required me to trim the back panel of the G5 case to allow the taller ATX mother board to fit. I also had to trim the top shelf to allow the ATX mother board to fit under it while still mounting it as it was originally mounted.

Then I removed the contents of the original power supply to support extending the original power cord inlet to the power supply mounted to the front panel of the G5 case, The original power supply case also allowed me to route power cables more easily.

After installing the power supply so that the cooling fan blows air outward through the from of the G5 case, I installed the water cooler to the back panel with spacers to allow the two 80MM rear fans to be independent;y mounted.

Then I mounted the disk holders with the topping in it's original place and the bottom one on the bottom of the top shelf. Finally I mounted an SSD into a 2.5" mounting under the top disk mounting position.

I used a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 motherboard and an Intel i7 4790K 1150-cpu with an Invidia GTX-760 video card and added in a Firewire card to support an older audio interface . This system runs at 4.0 Ghz and has two Fusion drives that hold Mavericks and Yosemite operating systems. I used Clover boot loaders an much of the installation information from rampaged.com to complete this project.

It was a tough choice - but the PS fit well in that position. The cables run out of the bottom of the PS and the nearly empty original PS case allows cable management.
