Hi Guys :P

I'm back after almost over a year to this forum. As I always say I enjoy a lot being here :)

Thanks to all whoever still remember me and without them it would have been very hard for me to learn things here.

Alright guys, Its now time for me to build new Hackintosh CPU under $250 budget and I desperately need help in choosing the hardware and need few suggestions to pick my choice.

First, I was living in UK for many years and never had a problem to select a online retailer to buy hardware. And also there was many options and discounts to go for. But a month ago I have to move to india for my job purpose and now here e-commerce is just a beginning as we can't find many stores selling hardware online nor giving offers. Here comes a big problem for me and however I was able to find some high street shops, grey and black market shops in which I can get hardware for decent prices.

So guys please give few choices for the following hardware

  • CPU
  • MOBO
  • RAM
  • STORAGE
  • CASE
  • PSU

If you guys want to check prices in online stores india then check in below

http://Snapdeal.com

Thanks

Mobo: gigabyte h81m s2pv because it has dvi port.

Cpu: cheapest intel i3 with hd4400. Note: don't use vga port with this gpu, only dvi/hdmi.

Other: find the cheapest option you can find.

Hi poke :)

Thanks. How are you? Hope you remember me !

Would you suggest any cheap discrete graphics?

I wouldn't mind to buy one if I can mange within the budget.

How about Radeon HD 5450?

Another cheap option is to buy some old(er) Dell for under 100 bucks, and upgrade CPU, Graphics and maybe RAM. That's what i did for under 250 usd.

But if you could build i3 for that money, i would go with that - always!

Hi owbp.

Thanks for your reply. Looks like your idea of buying a dell cpu will do a good deal, anyways will search and see.

Could you please mention few Dell CPU models that work good for OSX.

No problem, glad if i could be of any help.

Any old Core2Duo Optiplex is a good buy for basic Hack (40-80 eur). Look at the, 745, 755, 760, 780, 790, 960 etc.

They usually come with 2GB of RAM, and here one more stick of 2GB RAM is 15 euros. Basic GFX, like GT 210, 220, 610 are 20-40 euros, and with that you have great OSX platform for 135 euros max (about 150 usd).

Then, if you like, you could spend more on bigger HDD or some Core2Quad, but above configuration should work great for all basic needs.

I bought my Optiplex 755 for 100 euros two years ago (they are much cheaper now), Geforce GT220 for 30, 1TB HDD for 50, 6GB of RAM for 45 and Q6600 CPU for 35 euros. So it was 295 usd, and nowadays that same Optiplex is about half the price. And it worked great with E4400 CPU and 4GB of RAM.

Mountain Lion is super easy to install and everything works OOB (i had to make efi string for GT220). For Maverick and Yosemite you have to save 3 kexts from ML installation AFAIK. But those kext are floating around the web and very easy to find (I've worked my way up from 10.8 to 10.10.3 and then back to 10.9.5 so i had them saved).
