mendozal
I recently purchased a Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X 8Gb and tested it on 10.10.3 and 10.10.4 public beta. It works fine, I even have QE/CI working. Youtube works, my 4k display works fine. I have HiDPI 1920x1080 working nicely. The only thing I notice is that the yosemite UI a little choppy. I use my rig mainly for video editing with FCPX and skimming is a little slower and choppier than when I had my GTX 770. In windows the same card works perfectly and benchmarks are higher than the 770 but in OS X is like it does not use full acceleration capabilities. I read that many people need to inject connector data, framebuffer and other data in order to get the card working. I tried injecting ATI, changing ATI Connectors Data, changing Framebuffer and with all of those options I get black screen. The only way it works is by disabling the injections and running it just as is, it's detected as: AMD Radeon HD 8xxx 8192 MB and even have dual display (HDMI and mDP) working. I don't know what to do to enable full acceleration.
Pavo
the 290X gets full acceleration without and with injection, framebuffer patch only allows you to use more than 1 monitor, if you are using 1 monitor then you don't need to injection or framebuffer patch below is a Cinebeach score with my 290X 8Gb without injection:
Werner_02
Hi,Pavo, since I have also a R9 290x, using 10.10.4, my question is: What kind of monitor do you use? The point ist, that my monitor is only able to allow a maximum of 60 frames and according to that, in my Cinebench I do only have about 60 frames. I mean, a card that calculates 120 frames, although the monitor can only handle half of them, is possibly wasting energy for nothing - and also produces unneccessary high temperatures. Kind greetings, Werner

It's like my 290x works fine, but when it needs to step up in graphics performance (ie. 4k full screen) it doesn't. I even tried several SMBIOS configuration, reinstalling the OS didn't work either. What brand and exact model is your 290x 8gb? If you're using clover, is it too much to ask for your config.plist file? I'd like to see your configuration in try to replicate in my system. Thank you. Pavo
Look at profile for a link to my 290x and i use Oz but the benchmark i posted was with no injection or patching at all, no reason to give you a config

I only asked for the configuration because I suspect it's a power management problem. Cinebench results give very low fps. I was investigating about AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext file, I can't get it loaded. I even tried with different SMBIOS: MacPro3,1, MacPro 6,1, iMac15,1, iMac14,2 and others. Also, do you have your DSDT patched? thanks.

Captura de pantalla 2015-06-12 a las 20.50.07.png I am not doing injection, nor am I doing any FB patching, nor am I doing any DSDT patching. You do have some kind of issue though because it shouldn't give that low of score no matter what you are doing. Picasso
I was reading all the thread about 290X, and the Cinebench uploaded for Pavo has the same result as my old 7970. I had a 280X too, and works very similar! So, I thinks 290X is not working with full acceleration. I think, for the specification have to work with more FPS. Maybe I am wrong. I'm very interesting to get 290X working.
Pavo
I'm not understanding how you are not getting 290X working, its works OOB without injection or framebuffer injection, but only with 1 monitor
