Hey all,

I have a buddy that works as the store manager of a MicroCenter and he put 2 EVGA SC 980 Ti's (Reference Cooler) aside for me and I picked them up today.  As expected (since the Titan X under the same chip had no problem using Yosemite) they're compatible using the Nvidia Web (Retail) Drivers.

Compared to some on this site I'm simply an amateur, however it seems to me that the drivers do need updating to optimize the cards under professional applications.  For instance, in After Effects GPU settings describe it as "Nvidia Pre-Release Graphics Device".   OpenCL tests in LuxMark v3.0 Ball scene (can't compare to most results on the web - as they were v2.1 which uses a diff render engine) it scored just below 29k.  I will do more benchmarking once the web drivers etc are updated.  Gonna send my IOReg etc off to the right people (thanks Rampage Dev!).  If you're only worried about Photoshop and Youtube you'll have no issues.   Just thought it was worth mentioning, and I'm just really excited that I've already got my hands on them, I'm not gonna lie.  I'll be happy to answer any questions.

I ordered a Nvidia gtx 980 ti for my mac pro 2012 tower. Do you think it will work? Can I use it for a 4k display?

Yes, you can use it and it does work.

Concerning the 4K display - that depends on the used OS and the monitor...

Apple OS X still has problems with MST displays, especially on the old Mac Pro.

With Windows everything works quite fine ;O)

Can you please run the Octane Render Bench and post results. It tests CUDA performance, which I assume most will care about more than OpenCL: https://render.otoy.com/octanebench/

Titan X ~135

980 Ti (should score ~123)

780 Ti ~ 104

GTX 690 ~100

I just did a quick test with OctaneBench 2.17, it's 136.39
