Lotustar Posted May 29, 2015 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Strange things happening with my optical drive in a new build. I hear it spin up then it stops. Likes it's trying to read something. Nothing is in the drive. Not sure where to even start looking for a solution to this. It's just a minor annoyance but still. Other than that...this machine is VERY stable. Any clues? Thanks! Seems maybe something is causing os x to check the drive or something. So odd. Fund this n another forum. Will try it when I get home from work and report back. If someone beats me to it let us know if it works! Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> uncheck "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible". Lotustar Posted June 1, 2015 Author Share Posted June 1, 2015 This worked for me: Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> uncheck "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible". I have an SSD so unchecking this is not a prob for me. If you have a standard HD and don't want it spinning all the time you can try leaving a disc (any disc) in the drive and that should also work.
