Ghost In The Optical Drive?

Strange things happening with my optical drive in a new build. I hear it spin up then it stops. Likes it's trying to read something. Nothing is in the drive. Not sure where to even start looking for a solution to this. It's just a minor annoyance but still. Other than that...this machine is VERY stable. Any clues? Thanks!

That's interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with networking. I will have to pay attention to what I am doing when it happens, what's running. I will def report back.

I have a similar issue.

The led indicator on my DVD drive occasionally blinks for no reason.

I thought my drive was going bad but apparently it's os x related.

Yea it's def os x related. I still have no clue what causes it though. Seems maybe something is causing os x to check the drive or something. So odd.

Fund this n another forum. Will try it when I get home from work and report back. If someone beats me to it let us know if it works!

Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> uncheck "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible".

This should fix the spinning problem.

This worked for me: Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> uncheck "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible". I have an SSD so unchecking this is not a prob for me. If you have a standard HD and don't want it spinning all the time you can try leaving a disc (any disc) in the drive and that should also work. Hope this helps.
