juanml82
Hi, I have an osx partition with Mavericks still sitting in my hard drive, but I'm not using it. I don't want to delete it just in case I do end up wanting to use it in the future and I need to go through all the hassle of installing osx and the aplications. So, what I'm looking for is to make a compressed image of the partition, preferrably fragmented in 4.3 Gb files so I can back it up to dvds instead of using hdd space and which can be easily restored should I want to do it in the future. What's the best software to do so? I was thinking about clonezilla, but I'm not sure how it works with HFS partitions nor how it goes about restoring them
Allan
CCC = Carbon Copy Clone is very good. Or boot with your USB installation, and make this: Save the image in an empty partition. PS: With CCC you don't need restart or use USB installation.

juanml82
But can I just use it to make the image as a file in an existing ntfs partition? I don't want to waste hard drive space keeping osx, because I'm not backing it up just in case it breaks during an update or something, I'm backing it up to erase it and make an easier reinstallation should I ever want to use it again. Basically, I want to have these files in my ntfs data partition osx_backup_part1.something (size 4.3 GB) osx_backup_part2.something (size 4.3 GB) ... osx_backup_part10orwhatever.something (size 4.3 GB) So I copy it to dvd and store it in shelf. And then I erase the osx partition in the hard drive.
Allan
Probably yes. I recommend that you create a partition only for Files. I use ExFat here, and is compatible with Windows and OS X.
