Hi all

i have just bought a mac pro 4.1. i would be grateful if. i could have some help to tell me how to take out the plastic optical door mechanism. as i over tighten the screw

and managed to brake off the captive nut from the case. so i need to take off the plastics to reattach the captive nut to the case.

its a silly mistake. but I'm just learning the mac hardware side of things i have enclosed a photograph

                                                                                                                      Best regards baldyman

http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/macpro_early2009.pdf link for the manual.  Not sure if they make it that small but with larger screws I use a left handed drill bit that drills in the screw and by going anti-clock wise it can in most cases actually grab the screw and it will unscrew out.  The drill bit has to be left handed or anti-clock wise from the standard drill bits. Your local hardware store may carry it. I had to order online and bought a case from very small to ½ inch. I am sure they make metric sizes.

Hope that helps.

Oooh bummer. Did you look for tabs or a seam.  I just finished upgrading a 2008 MacBookPro laptop and had to use the plastic splunger and a thumbnail to get it come apart at the bottom right of the keyboard and trackpad. Made that cracking noise a little unsettling. Something has to be hidden so I would look for a seam or tab. Sorry I could not be of much help.
