36mbps until....then 99mbps

Hey,

I have a weird issue that I hope someone can help me solve.

I have a 100mbps internet connection, and in Windows I get speeds between 99/105mbps on WiFi. However, after doing a speed test yesterday/today I realized my WiFi in OS X is capping out at 36mbps.

If I log into the router and change almost any setting, then the speed will jump up to 99/105 mbps. It will stay like this until restart, or until it wakes from sleep.

Any ideas why this might be happening, and how to go about fixing it?

Thanks,

CLM

I did a bit more testing.

...

I renewed the DHCP, turned off/on WiFi, Deleted connection and reconnected.

None of these worked.

If I log into the router and switch on/off "Band Steering" it will instantly jump to 99mbps.

So, the setting in the router itself doesn't seem to matter, but something about the act of changing the router setting allows OS X to suddenly free itself of the cap, and run at full speeds.

I can suggest a couple of things:

1.Try deleting your network plist files to reset all the network settings in OS X.

2.Find out MTU of your ISP and set the same value manually in WiFi settings in OS X.

3.Disable bluetooth.

A bit more testing.

It turns out I get 36mbps on all my devices (iPad, iPhone, PC, PC 2 running Windows). It also happens when I log into Windows on my Hack as well.

When I log into the router and change the setting, all my devices see upwards of 70-99mbps.

I have no idea what could be causing this to happen across all devices. I really hope my Hack isn't causing issues with the router.

I have a service tech coming out on Monday to check it. This is the strangest WiFi issue I've ever had.
