Merge 2 broken iPhones into 1 working iPhone

Hi guys,

I got the old iPhone 5 from a friend of mine. Broken means the display is scattered, the case is very very scratched and dented, the standby and volume down buttons don't work any more and the home button is loose.

But aside from that, the phone is still working. She would remove the activation lock and sell it to me.

I am thinking now that I could get another 'broken' iPhone from ebay. Maybe one with activation lock but with a unscratched display. Then I replace the logic board with the activation lock with the one from my friend's phone and merge  two half-broken phones into one completely working one.

My question to you:

- would that work?

- can I replace the logic board from a black iPhone with the one from a white iPhone or does the iPhone "get all confused" when I do that? (sounds like a noob question when I type it out but maybe Apple came up with some sort of lock for that)

Thanks for your answers.

edit: I know that buying a iPhone with activation lock on eBay would potentially support theft which I don't want to. But one the other hand, I would also believe the seller when they write that they bought a used iPhone off eBay and when it arrived it had a lock and they couldn't use it. So they're selling it again...

With the iPhone 5S it is a bit more difficult because of the Touch ID Homebutton. Touch ID is uniquely connected with the logic board. Meaning that only the combination of your logic board and your Touch ID button are working together. You cannot switch them with a new Touch ID homebutton.

The result is: if you are buying a new screen including front camera, speaker and home button, you will probably get a home button without Touch ID and you will have to replace that with your Touch ID homebutton. It is possible too, just a bit more work ;)

Or, of course, you don't use Touch ID at all ;)

Good luck
