Can't download Yosemite or upgrade to Lion with Core2 Quad CPU

I have a machine with an Intel Core2 Quad 2.33GHz Q8200 (IIRC) CPU on a MCP73M01H1 motherboard running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 but the problem is that I can't upgrade to either Lion or Yosemite because the Apple functions claim that I need a Core2 Duo (not Quad) or several other options. I believe "About this Mac" shows it as a Xeon processor.

Is there any workaround to get it to recognise the Quad CPU? Snow Leopard is a bit unsatisfactory because I cannot set the resolution above 1024x768.
