Apple has released important security updates for Mac users who are continuing to run OS X Mavericks (10.9.5) and OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). The updates are versioned as “Security Update 2015-001″ for both system software versions and are recommended for all Mac users running prior releases of OS X.

Go in  Apple menu and choose ‘Software Update’...

Restart, and enjoy... ;)

be careful if you have haswell motherboard with locked msr's.

this security update (at least for 10.8) seems to have a new kernel. wich kill the clover "on the fly" kernel patching for powermanagement.

i installed it for 10.8 on my asus haswell laptop : now i have the early reboot problem... i can't boot my system anymore.

i didn't see inside the installer if a new kernel is present (apple didn't spread this update on their website yet, only app store), but it seems to be the case.

i can't be sure 100%

but if your firmware is modded to unlock the msr's, i think there's no problems :)

I don't have these versions installed/handy right now, but...

With the new kernels in these updates, try:

10.8.5 and 10.9.5

perl -pi -e 's|\xe2\x00\x00\x00\x02\x00\x00\x00|\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00|g' mach_kernel
perl -pi -e 's|\xe2\x00\x00\x00\x0c\x00\x00\x00|\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00|g' mach_kernel
perl -pi -e 's|\xe2\x00\x00\x00\x10\x00\x00\x00|\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00|g' mach_kernel

Yes, I have this kernel dated December 18, 2014. I just not remember what kernel I had before.

Thanks for the link, I shall give it a try as soon as I have created a test Mavericks install on another drive, as I'm currently quite happy with my setup and don't want to break it :)
