Dual E5620 better than i7-4770k for my new build?

Hi i am doing a new build and although i already have 2 Xeon E5620 CPUs i am wondering what would be better the i7-4770kor the Xeon seeing that i have found many posts on difficulties getting 2 CPUs running. Saying that i posted here on InsainlyMac and had replies from guys who have 2 CPU running without an issue. So my motive for asking this question is not just one of performance but if it turns out that a dual CPU config is a good choice then i will be willing to go the extra mile to get the thing running. My reason for thinking dual CPU is i use OS X for myself and windows VM for work so i can keep VM running and switch between the two. At the moment i am having reduced performance with my core2Quad and 8GB RAM.

Thanks for reading

It is a wash on the processing power just about the same thing for both options. Where you will find the differences will be in the hundreds of watts extra power consumed at all times by the dual setup and the costs of/work involved getting the dual setup up and running. So if you like wasting time/money dual setup if you want to save some cash and have an easy to setup machine the the single core is the way to go. Also since it looks like you do not have the single core yet 4790k is the way faster cpu, better thermal material and roughly the same price if you buy new.

Edit: forgot the VM idea it is the processing power and amount of ram installed which will determine if it is slowing down the machine when running it.
