iCore
HI all, I just got a 4K monitor, but in order to be able to have 4K@60Hz, I need to change my graphic card for one with a DisplayPort output. I am looking for the cheapest one (I don't do any gaming, 3D or anything that needs power) but I want it to run out of the box, in order to be as reliable as possible. Any idea ? I am completely lost in all AMD references... Thanks.

Rampage Dev
any R2 290X Or r2 280 I believe he is asking for cards the fully work under Mac OS X and have reliability as well. If you want reliability the purchase a Nvidia GTX 760. You do not want to go to cheap as you can and will have issues with lower GPU due to the processing power required for 4K. The 760 will fit your needs very well.

Rampage Dev
r9 280x works perfectly fine for me OOB Not all of them. Many models do not work under Mac OS X. And again he wants reliability.
iCore
Thanks for your feedback, and happy new year to all of you The R9 280, 280x, 290 and 290x are to expensive for me... I looks like I may have to forget the "working oob" option What about the R7 250 ? It is affordable (<100€) and it supports 4K (over DisplayPort) and is fanless

Nvidia GTX 760 is the lowest you can go if you want it to work properly.
kvonlinee
ICore, When you have a hardware and it is not working on certain condition( this case is graphics card) then you realize to pay full price again, and you learn then what is a waste money. This is you have aAvice before buying. But it is your money to spend, hope you spend it wisely.

(a Nvidia GT 610 which is working very well, and cost me only 30€) The story is that I won this 28" 4K monitor in a store sweepstake, and I would like to keep it (and have the retina experience on my hackintosh) , but in order to use it correctly I need to change the card. And as it was not planned, I don't have money to do so... Spending 200€+ in a graphic cards is not an option... 120€ would be the very maximum I can afford. No, not supported. Nvidia GTX 760 is the lowest you can go if you want it to work properly. What about the GTX 750 ? I found this one: http://www.zotac.com/uk/products/graphics-cards/geforce-700-series/gtx-750/product/gtx-750/detail/geforce-gtx-750-zone-edition/sort/starttime/order/DESC/amount/10/section/specifications.html
Rampage Dev
Save up for a proper GPU or sell the monitor. You will be disappointed if you don't.

Slice
Sapphire Working or gaming with multiple monitors is becoming increasingly popular, and the SAPPHIRE HD 7800 series supports this with AMD Eyefinity, now in its second generation. In multi-monitor setups, SAPPHIRE HD 7800 series cards can simultaneously output multiple, independent audio streams allowing the correct audio content to be associated with different applications on different screens. HDMI specifications have also increased in the HD 7000 series. Fast HDMI 1.4a supports Stereoscopic 3D with enhanced frame rates of 60Hz per eye - 120Hz total. It is also ready for the next generation of 4K displays that can be driven from a single high speed input of 3GHz HDMI 1.4a or DisplayPort 1.2 HBR2.

BNZfive
Although you'd have to install the Nvidia kext (not hard at all), I would think a GTX 950 or GTX 750 TI would be decent. Nice thing about the GTX 950 is that it also has a HDMI 2.0 port along with it's display port. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487156&cm_re=gtx_950-_-14-487-156-_-Product
