after reading through alot of pages and google searches, i finally got Yosemite installed on this system and am posting from it! :)

HP Pavilion 500-223w

i had already upgraded the video card to a Geforce 8400 GS so it works OOB. had to upgrade the PSU also as the stock unit
only has a 12amp 12v rail and is only 300 watts but the card requires 18amp on the 12v rail and 350 watts.

got a working RTL8111/8168B kext. :P

sound is a no go, but i can live with out it for now.

will play with it for a while before i take the 10.10.1 update.

i just wanted to thank everyone on this site for all the posts that i read through! :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim:

Edit:
took the 10.10.1 update and all is still good.
updated the IO80211Family.kext and added the id for my wireless PCI card. an ASUS PCE-AC56 and it works!
still looking for the IDT 92HD65C kext from this post olarila.com

Edit2:

ended up using voodoohda and i have audio now! :w00t:

i dont have a mic to test but i just need audio out so everything is good.

Hey there! Your entry on the HCL 10.10 gave me hope. I saw you were successful with getting this build up and running and was wondering if you could share your methods on here. This is a very common system from HP and the motherboard used within is installed in a long list of other HP models. We could sticky this thread to a list of those systems that I compiled (see attached) and help a bunch of people out..and me too, lol.

What kexts/apps are needed to do it?

How did you set the bios up?

What guide did you follow to create the installer?

What flags/modifications did you make to get the installer running on this mobo?

What settings/mods did you do to Clover to get it booting happily and with full acceleration?

What final tweaks did you make to get it just right?

What were some real hangups you experienced along the way that might stump someone?

ok pichu912, here is the link for my config file.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/69d1sos26s84jkk/config.plist?dl=0

after you install clover, replace the config with mine.

EDIT:

here is the link for the usb creation steps that i used.

with clover r3021:
Install for UEFI booting only

under Drivers64UEFI
  EmuVariableUefi-64
  OsxAptioFixDrv-64

after clover installer finishes, on the flash drive, delete the VBox files from Drivers64UEFI

and add HFSPlus.efi. google it, it's on github. RAW form.

add FakeSMC.kext to the CLOVER/kexts/10.10 folder. create folder if not there.

FakeSMC.kext
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/266-fakesmckext-yosemite-1010/

bios settings are as follows.
my bios ver 80.12

under Security / Secure Boot Configuration.
Legacy Support = Enabled (because my upgraded video card requires it)
Secure Boot = Disabled (because flash drive is not a secure boot device)

under Security / System Security
  Virtualization Tech.. = Enabled

under Storage / Storage Options
SATA Emulation = AHCI (should be default)

let me know how it turns out.

i happen to have the same board as you Mark Troy +OP. I managed to get Yosemite 10.10.1 to install on mine as well but I just can't get sound to work.  I know I could get VoodooHDA for sound but I wanted to get it through AppleHDA. Also, I'm facing a problem upon reboot, 99% of the time i get the no disk error. Have you experienced this at all?

BTW, I have sleep/wake work perfectly. Any help is appreciated.

blaggah, currently im still using voodoohda and haven't tried patching AppleHDA.

i have sleep working also and the card reader on the front.

if i remember correctly, i think i had that error once also. but not sure if my UEFI tinkering fixed.

i use 2 different hdds in my setup.

i added 2nd drive to the UEFI boot menu from windows using EasyUEFI for windows, with the UEFI setting set to boot the Yosemite/Clover drive first and then i select windows from the clover menu if needed.

the only oddity i have is the cdrom tray will just open by itself. it did it during me typing this reply.

Mark Troy -

I have almost the exact set up as you with an HP Pavilion 500-336 (same Memphis S board) and the 8400 GS with a replaced 400W PSU.

I did the Yosemite installation using Beast with a patching for the kernel for Haswell.

I get everything to work except sound. VoodooHDA give me an error that says kext was not installed properly.

I've downloaded and installed AppleHDA-269.25-IDT_92HD66C3:65.zip and HDAEnabler3kext.zip but still no sound.

Did you do anything special to get AppleHDA working for you? TIA

did you follow these steps.

to be honest, i glossed over it the first time, and then read this part again.

                      . Injection Of Your Audio_Id:

                         1 - Methods: Clover / DSDT / HDEnabler / Chameleon.

                                1 - DSDT / HDEF / Layout_id = Audio_id
                                2 - HDAEnablerX.kext (where "X" corresponds to the number of Audio_ID / desired Layout_ID)
                                3 - Clover / Config.plist / Devices / Audio / Inject = Audio_ID
                                4 - Chameleon Installer / Customize / Setting / HDEF Layout /

Note: Use only one of the methods described above.

method 3 for me with my 'codec id' (111d76f3) from DPCIManager added.

also, did you remove HDADisabler. that was installed at some point on my pc.
