Yosemite does'nt boot

Hello. With some difficulty I managed to install Yosemite on my desktop in signature, but it boot only with Clover in legacy,I can't boot windows in the other HD. I tried it with the latest version of Chameleon, but in vain. with -x it re-boot, I tried with and without cache, with flags cpus=npci=0x2000/3000. PCIRootUid=1, but to but nothing to do. I also tried to create another partition on HD where there is Yosemite, but although the partition is formatted in NTFS I can not install windows.I thought that a solution would be to reformat the entire HD in GPT and install windows first, as I have done on the laptop, but I tried and it doesn't work (in laptop).

Here are the pictures where it stops, in italian post:

Hope in some help, or I will remain with Mavericks 'cause my wife needs windows.

Thank you all.

Hi Marco,

Have you considered reinstalling Windows in UEFI mode?  My desktop rig is very similar to yours - a GA-P55a-UD3/Intel i5-750/XFX Radeon 5770 dual booting UEFI Windows 7 X64 and Yosemite 10.10.1 on a GPT drive with Clover (legacy pathway A via Clover EFI).

Even though we have legacy BIOS, CloverEFI provides a full UEFI environment to install and boot UEFI Windows - see post by @Pene.

Another alternative is to use Clover to chainload Chameleon which can in turn chainload legacy Windows.  I have posted a procedure here which involves installing Clover with "Alternative Booting PBR".

Good Luck!

Edit

Since you have Windows and OSX installed on separate HDs, you can also use F12 (for Gigabyte mobos) during BIOS boot to choose which HD to boot off:

Select Windows HD ---> boots Windows through its own boot manager

Select OSX HD ---> boots Yosemite through Clover.

Hi fusion71au,

thank you for your reply.

I didn't know I could install windows in UEFI mode even if I have an old mobo. I think that for my situation it's better to use Clover to chainload Chameleon which can in turn chainload legacy Windows, becuse To reinstall windows with all settings shoud be hard, but anyway I'll try if firs option will not work.

Thank you again, bye

  • 3 weeks later...

Incredible, I did it!

I installed Niresh yosemite to try if it was ok and it was. Installation, boot, all.

Then I looked to Niresh /Extra to see if there was some difference with my Yosemite /Extra, and there where 8 underline kexts, so I installed them in Yosemite /Extra, and at rebootwith chameleon... all right.

Do somebody know which is the funcion of these kexts? Can I delete some of them? Which one of them solved my problem?

Thank you all.

Here are Niresh kexts

What I understand from you is:

- you can boot OS X

- you can NOT boot Window

if i am correct in this,

Please Boot OS X,

APPLICATIONS->UTILITIES->TERMINAL

DISKUTIL  LIST

COPY AND PASTE  TO YOUR REPLY.

THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU LOADER.

SOMETHING TO DO WITH WINDOWS BOOT.

Your motherboard (GA-P55) is NOT UEFI Ready.

if your using GPT to install windows,

BOOT the SYSTEM partition for windows, (NOT the window partition)

if You install Clover in UEFI  Setting by mistake, EFI partition will be created.

with settings points to UEFI mode.

That,  may make window NOT bootable,

if this is the case, Disk Utilities => Disk Manager = > select disk => Partition => re enter number of PARTITIONS => Select GUID-option => re initialize each partition.

(JUST ERASE PARTITION,  WILL NOT WORK)

aww

Now it'all right. My sitauation was:

I was able to boot Yosemite with clover, but NOT windows (because windows was not UEFIinstalled)

Iwas NOT able to boot Yosemite with chameleon, but I needed chameleon because windows is installed in MBR in anhoter phisical HD and I can not format.

Now it's all right, chameleon boot yosemite without any flag thanks to niresh's kexts I installed in my previous Yosemite installation.

I should like to know wich is the funcion of these kexts.

AHC kexts      for older motherboard,  just when achi was introduced, not all standards were agreed upon. (newer board do not need this, p43,p45,p55 do not need this)

AppleNForceATA     for PATA hard drive, use nvidia chipset,  hardly anyone use this (EXCEPT AMDs). You do not need this.

ApplePCIIDE           same as above

ATAportInjector       same as above

in other words,   you do not need any of these kexts in   (Kext da Niresh.tiff)

if this GA-P55-USB3

is what we as talking about.

Your motherboard is NOT  UEFI ready.

Any attempt to install Clover in UEFI mode, will make your hard drive NO longer bootable with chameleon.

To install yosemite on Legacy machine,  chameleon 2510 may not work.

In the download area,  for chameleon 2510, on the right hand side,

try from 2391, 2395, 2399 .....move up to  2510,   one at a time, and  test boot.

USE same kexts in /Extra/Extensions as in your Mavericks,

i Assume,  FakeSMC, NullCpuPower, VoodooPS2, RTL81111  is in /Extra/Extensions

VooDooHDA in /System/Library/Extensions.

may need EVOreboot in /Extra/Extensions.

boot.plist in maverick should work, add dev-mode flag

I forgot to say that clover was in legacy mode, I know I have an old mobo so cover uefi can't work.

Thank you for informations, so kexts from niresh's installation... are useless for my mobo!

Happy to hear this, I will try to delete them and see if it boot. It's a mystery how it boot perfectly after installed them, and before I tried in vane for 2 months.

what make is your graphic card?

 I prefer using Clover over chameleon.

start with clover 2975 and 3033.

i prefer 2975, however 2975 fail to detect collect memory size in my notebook,

to switch between, chameleon and clover in legacy mode, is very simple.

Copy /Extra to Desktop as backup

delete boot file and /Extra from root,

install  Clover in legacy mode.

Add those kext in your /Extra/Extensions to /Clover/Kexts/10.10

on Clover 's drivers64UEFI, replace vbox with HFSPlus,efi

most cases, do not need to edit config.plist.

To Switch Back to Chameleon,

Copy EFI folder to desktop

delete EFI and boot files  from root,

and install chameleon.

copy from desktop, your Extra folder to Root.

GT220  have native support from 10.10.

Standard memory is 1024

chameleon may need this flags:

    npci=0x2000,  with / without this

  • GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No

if clover do not recognize your card then try.

Clover config.plist:

Graphics section

Inject nvidia = yes

VRAM  = 1024

like this

<dict>

<key>Inject</key>
<dict>
<key>ATI</key>
<false/>
<key>Intel</key>
<false/>
<key>NVidia</key>
<true/>
</dict>
<key>PatchVBios</key>
<false/>
<key>VRAM</key>
<string>1024</string>
</dict>

You can also, copy chameleon boot flags to Clover's plist  list  like this (in Arguments string)

Default Volume is this disk you want to start with.

<key>Boot</key>

<dict>
<key>Arguments</key>
<string>-v  </string>
<key>DefaultVolume</key>
<string>EP43-Yosemite2T</string>
<key>Fast</key>
<false/>
<key>Legacy</key>
<string>PBR</string>
<key>Log</key>
<false/>
<key>Timeout</key>
<integer>5</integer>
<key>XMPDetection</key>
<string>-1</string>
</dict>
