jana
Hey guys, I've had my current pc for two and a half years now and im considering on swithcing to a Mac. These are my main queastions. 1) Worth swtiching to a mac or is Apple's way of advertising just making me buy one? 2) if it is worth buying an Mac - Ive been thinking of an iMac 20inch. Will it run Vista via Parrelels desktop or Boot Camp. And will i be able to easily upgrade to Mac OS X Leopard when it is released?

But of course, Apple is trying to make you buy one. That is what advertising is all about. 2) 20-inch iMac is a fine choice. Vista on Parallels - yes. Vista on Boot Camp - yes. Upgrade to Leopard - yes.

Orea
Hiya! Im in Yr11 and i live in the uk aswell! hehe! I had the same problem as you did! hehe! so i bought a mac pro! and now im running vista, and 10.4.7!! The iMac would also run it! If you did with hackintosh there are compatibilty issue's and so fourth, and also updates have to be patched! Your better of being an iMac with apple support, and downloading boot camp!! BaYlisS! Rammjet
Has a Vista install using parelels or boot camp been done before? Parallels just released a version that is claimed to support Vista. The recent build of Vista has been installed via Boot Camp with some problems. Until Apple releases Boot Camp drivers for Vista, those problems won't go away. And Apple won't release new drivers for Vista until it is final and published.
jana
Im year 10 and im begining to hate coursework. a power Mac ur rich. Well ive wasted so much on pcs theyre practically all over my house. Well how did you set up Vista? Are you able to run it while using OSX? Or do you have to restart the Mac everytime you want to switch OS's. Did you set it up yourself, is it good? Oh and how easy was the switch from PC's to Mac for you? Will you ever go back to PC's? jana
Thats almost made up my mind. I'll be buying when leopard comes out that way a new mac will be sure to run it the best. The final questions - Buy an Mac Mini and build a new PC or Buy a iMac and forget about PC's forever? Is it easy to upgrade the iMac? This is my final factor to making my descision. At the moment i can be sure that: Vista will run either using Paralels or using Boot Camp Apple's great way of persuading and advertising has made me want to buy one. I know that these days its easy for Macs to communicate with PC's Things that deter me from buying a Mac: Not very customizable - In the terms of modding Quite big price tags with long numbers I like Apple's UI but i have used windows for too long and most the time i get lost

Im not here to tell you what to do! but i have never got lost in OSX! You could buy a mac mini, and then wait a while for the vista computers come out next year or something like that Random Rubbish On Vista! My windows server communicates like a dream with my Mac Pro! If you get the right components in the iMac, like a good graphics card, and enough rammy, you should be ok! you can upgrade the ram in the iMac very easily, there some photo's on here somewhere of some bloke doing it! http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=28012 BaYlisS
bigeasy
I wouldn't say forget about pc's forever, they still do things that macs cant do, im not trying to bash macs, (im typing this on my powerbook g4, which i use more than my pc) i still need my windows pc for other things. but they are fantastic for day-to-day use. These days its down to the software differences rather than hardware, and osx rocks the socks off anything microsoft has in store for us. I'm sure you wont regret the switch, It is difficult at first switching from any os to another, as we all become familiar with how everything works, but after a while it becomes second nature. I've been using windows since win95a (my amiga 600 caught fire while i was using it, R.I.P . and i got my first pc with the insurance money) and although i've only had my mac for a week im getting more used to it and im really enjoying the experience. INFNITE
install Boot Camp or Parallels and you've got the best of both worlds. Toss your PC. I haven't used a PC on a regular basis since I got my MBP 7 months ago
sandmanfvrga
Wait till Leopard to come out so it will run the best? You do realize that new OS isn't going to KILL macs or anything.

willgonz
PC's are cool because you can build your own with whatever parts you want. Mac's are just cool because you are buying more than a computer. You get extras included. For example on a MacBook Pro the keys light up when the room is dark. They have come with an iSight with really nice quallity. Other PC Vendors build their units to sale. They don't care how long they will last. Every person who I talked into getting a Mac, ended up being happy. Every person who I talked into getting a PC, made me money to fix their hardware and software problems.
