steve_newcastle
ok this is probably an idiots question but i don't know the answer i currently am using an intel pentium g630 on a ga-h61m-s2pv board with 8mb ram i have yosemite installed with most things running ok as an easy fairly cost effective way of upgrading could i just swap the cpu for a socket 1155 i3 or i5 processor? is there liable to be a sandy bridge to ivybridge issue? am i liable to run into a world of pain? any help even if just to say yes its a stupid question is greatly appreciated steve
Frank Pacheco
The Pentium g630 uses the same micro architecture as the Sandy Bridge I3, I5, and I7 Series Processor. A simple swap should work without any issues. As for Ivy Bridge, make sure your Motherboard has the latest Bios F4 that includes fixes and support for Ivy bridge. steve_newcastle
what if i upgrade to an i3 or i5 ivybridge as they seem to be the cheaper and easier to get option?

Pimentel
Hello Just a complement... Only tecnical difference between intel pentium and core i 2nd/3th/4th generation is because Chameleon generate P and C States for intel pentium, but don't generate for core i... So you'll need use a SSDT to generate it for you.... Clover generate P and C States for Core i, but sometimes Clover don't generate the correct TPM number so is best use SSDT to correct this than use bootloader power management. In 2 cases is best use SSDT to mkae your power management runnig well
