Hi gurus, I'm a complete newbie, so please be patient.

I've just ordered a new laptop for my Wife and she's kindly donated her Dell laptop to me in exchange!

I'd like to have a go at getting OS X Yosemite on this and need to start by finding out if it's even possible!

Can anyone help please?

Cheers.

What's your hardware? Pur CPU/mobo/GPU all this in your signature. It's a good start to install OSX :)

Thank you, here you go:

System: Dell Latitude E4310

CPU: i5-520m @ 2.4GHz

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 1366 x 768

Chipset: Intel Havendale/Clarkdale Host Bridge

Hello

Try use olarila's forum image... Choose OSX 10.9.5 usb bootable

It's 100% retail and easy to make and install.

Select it in donwload sector: http://olarila.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9&sid=60e828257c7727a7980882f3ca6ed64c

To your graphic try this kext: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/208-1st-gen-intel-hd-graphics-kexts/

Because it doesn't have support, read a bit more about this in there.... it's for Yosemite but i think this work in Mavericks...

try boot with -v -f

if don't boot try: -v -f -x
