Dell Optiplex 745

Core 2 Duo

4GB Ram

Galaxy Gefore GT 240

I'm attempting to install OSX Yosemite onto my Dell Optiplex 745. However, the problems I describe below have always been the same no matter what version of OSX I am trying to load.

The issue I'm having does not seem to be apparent anywhere else. Basically, when I attempt to boot the installer USB, I can get into the bootloader just fine, but it takes a long time (about a minute or so) just to get into the bootloader.

Once inside the bootloader, I try to load the installer, and the screen goes black. It doesn't start loading the system at all. It's not a graphics issue, because even without graphics support, you can see the verbose boot before the screen goes black. In this instance, I can tell that it can't get past the bootloader because Ctrl+Alt+Delete causes the system to reboot, which does not happen when it is loading OSX.

For reference, I did go into BIOS and set Hard drive to Legacy, turned on usb booting.

To try to get around this problem, I attempted to install OSX to the drive externally using my main system and the installer USB. After doing that, I installed Clover to the hard drive. When I attempted to boot directly off the hard drive, it was the exact same situation. Clover took a really long time to load, and when I attempt to boot into OSX, the screen goes black and does not load the system at all.

Seeing as this is a Dell desktop, I will cross-post this on Latitude forum to ensure this issue gets documented on their site as well, once the solution is found.

I've got a problem that was similar to yours, the kernel won't load if in your bios you haven't enable the EDB (Execution Disable Bit) in my system it causes an instant reboot, in your case it hangs while do nothing.

Second things you can try is to disable the virtualization of your processor vt-d

Same here, got my friends 745 SFF so no expandability and the installer is just black screening at certain times depending on the boot flags I input. Really annoying but could it be the graphics the SFFs use? They could be unsupported.

Hi,

With optiplex 745 you need to make your DSDT ok, that means remove compile bugs.

Put DSDT.aml in Clover acpi directory, after that, it will be able to patch and compile.

My Dell Optiplex working fine with Yosemite.

Edit:

Or try with this DSDT.aml and copy ACPI from config.plist in your.

config.plist.zip

I switched over to chameleon, and it became slightly different. It loads the bootloader much faster, but I still can't get into the system. If I boot without flags, I can get to the Apple logo, but it stays frozen. It is not the "waiting for root device error" because the sign doesn't come up or anything.

If I disable the Execute bit option in BIOS, the computer restarts immediately.

I applied the files you uploaded, as well. Did you change anything in your BIOS settings?

My Optiplex 745 boot with clover.

Nothing special in BIOS boot correctly Normal or Legacy for SATA.

NO needed kext patch, correct id injected in DSDT.

I had a question related to this topic.  I've got similar specs:

Dell Optiplex 745 tower

Core Duo processor

4GB Ram

ATI RadeonHD 5450 graphics card (modified kexts for full QE/CI)

I'm using Clover to boot, and it works pretty well (especially if I use the DSDT that Fred posted).  The boot time is pretty slow, but I'm not so worried about that.  I'm running dual boot Yosemite / Windows 7, each on their own drive. The issue I'm facing is how to enable the 2 Port SATA controller (SATA 4 & 5).

Right now I have the drives configured as follows:

Yosemite HD in SATA 0

DVD-Rom Drive in SATA 1

Windows 7 HD in SATA 4

I have enabled these 3 ports in the Bios (version 2.6.6).   They're in legacy mode.

I'm using the ATAPortInjector.kext in the Clover kext 10.10 folder to allow the ICH8 chipset to be seen (device 2820 for SATA 0 & 1, device 2825 for SATA 4 & 5).

When I boot, Clover sees both Yosemite & Windows, and I can boot from either.

But if I boot into Yosemite, I can't see the Windows drive.

If I switch the DVD-Rom Drive and Windows 7 drive SATA ports, I can see the Windows drive and not the DVD-Rom.  This leads me to believe that Yosemite isn't loading the SATA driver for the 2825 (ICH8 2 Port SATA) correctly.  I've been searching for a solution, and wondered if you'd seen one?

I use the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext, it help chameleon see the drive on port 0 and port 1 as ATA drive, used it in S/L/E.

Later I learn that LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext help clover see the ATA drive, install ok bu some how my Dell XPS 410 got a shutdown problem( never turn off completely)

To dujones,

i think you can swicth DVD drive into port2, window 7 in port1, and osx on port0, because osx see port0, and port1, when modify AppleLPC, the it see port2 and port3, for my test port4 and port5 was never show up in osx.

I boot fine into the installer using clover but the sata drive does not show up in disk util so I pulled the drive out and installed 10.10.2 externally. Placed the drive back in and it boots with message unable to find root device as I suspected would happen. I have the ahci injector in clover kexts I wonder if place it into S/L/E if that would work? I tried everything else already. Updated bios changed settings in bios like sata normal to legacy and tried switching around sata cables.

I grabbed a dsdt and kexts from the osxlatitude forum EDP and that did nothing. Fredwst was successfull but his config.plist and dsdt are no longer available.

Same here: using clover, it boots just fine but the hard drive is not detected.

This forum seems to be littered with attachments whose urls lead nowhere. Why is that?

I have an IOATAFamily.kext with the correct device ids, an ATAPortInjector.kext that looks very similar and I have no idea whether the DSDT.aml I have is correct or not, or even if it's needed.
