I currently am running Mavericks on my pc with these specs:

Asrock Extreme3 gen3 core i5 2500k

ATI 7970Ghz

Realtek RTL81..kext

ALC 892 AUdio

I want to install or upgrade to Yosemite..preferable fresh install if I can get the correct kexts working for Audio and internet. I noticed there are two install USB guide methods here. Which one is preferable? Also for my kexts does anyone know which ones I need for Yosemite? I installed the Beta a long time ago and I noticed the same kexts did not work.

My advice is to go slowly, leave your Mav disk alone and use another disk while you figure things out with Yos.

I had perfect luck with TonyMacx86's guide here: #####

You'll need the Realtek drivers installed via m u l ti be as t, and you can just use your current kext if your Mav box ethernet is working.

For sound, it can get tricky, so be patient. I had excellent luck with Toleda's scripts: https://github.com/toleda/audio_RealtekALC

I also have an 892 so I followed the instructions (Yos/Clover) here: https://github.com/toleda/audio_CloverALC, using https://github.com/toleda/audio_CloverALC/blob/master/audio_cloverALC-100.command.zip

Then I had to install a new USB 3 driver (http://sourceforge.net/projects/genericusbxhci/files/) (use ke xt be as t or similar to move GenericUSBXHCI.kext to /S/L/E)

Then I had to follow the instructions at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/298027-guide-aio-guides-for-hackintosh/?do=findComment&comment=2020598 to fix FaceTime/iCloud/iMessage.

Finally to hide the Thunderbolt firmware update on the App Store/Software Updates I had to run in terminal:

softwareupdate --ignore ThunderboltFirmwareUpdate1.2

May also need the trim patch if you're using an SSD that doesn't have trim built in. mult i be as t can do that for you too.

I have Gig X97 game 5 with Gig Gtx 970 G1 and used ####

All I had problems with the Nv web drivers because I would click to use WEB drivers and would not stick yet after the 3 or so try works perfect. No problems with 970 at all.

Now (just tested to make sure) facetime, iCloud, Imessage, updates (dont use thunderbolt) work fine I had to do nothing. Sleep works perfect wakes up perfect.. best ever for me.

EDIT: just remembered once I changed the "org.chameleon.Boot.plist" it got stuck at "waiting for root device". So I copied back the one on the USB and just touched up that one and then boots great.

Yea I have mavericks fully working on an ssd by now. Is there an mbr patch I can use successfully on a partitioned ntfs drive to test the install first before formatting my mavericks ssd to do a fresh install?

Thanks for the info too.

He he,

You guy come here to learn, check out the tutorial here, it great.

If you want something ready, when it has a kernel panic, what you do.

Please don't mention any from tony site anymore, if you guy want discuss it over-there.

For the one post, you should learn from Clover, it is great and help a lot.

Hello

We don't give support for tonymac's tools... know why: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/275941-very-important-please-read-about-tonymacx86-and-iatkos/

Try our guides... they're very good.

@Selayan. What's your hardware? Post in signature.... :)

Thanks, I do have my system specs inside my sig..they are greyed out for some reason. I will definately check the guides here.

  • 4 weeks later...

Tried the guide there and the install works with clover but it creates another boot partition in my bios. I prefer chameleon but that method would not boot the installer for me.

Thanks. This finally worked for me. The previous guide is nice doing it manually but there are some steps in there for chameleon that doesn't work for Yosemite like opening the build essentials with pacifist and copying mach kernel.

It might also be the version of chameleon used in that guide. Chameleon would boot but the install would not.

Glad the v4 guide worked for me. I was also able to update to 10.1 and just move Apple Intel cpu kexts for it to boot again.
