Undentifiedz
Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, if not please move this thread to the right one, thanks! So, I want to replace my old I5-2500k CPU with an Intel Core i5 4670K or maybe a xeon, i'm guessing i can't just replace it and reboot my pc, what will i have to do to get it to work? Do i just have to reinstall os x? Is it simpler or way more complicated? Thanks!
dreadkopp
replacing your 2500k with a 4670k will need a new motherboard since they do not use the same socket. check that first and get an upgrade then. either a better cpu which fits your mainboard or a new mainboar+cpu. you don't need to reinstall osx, you might need a cmos-reset but most likely not. when choosing the second option to upgrade you might need to apply some new fixes and kexts since another mainboard might not use the same controllers for network/sound etc

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H Intel Core i7 4790K (Might change that into an xeon, since i mainly use my hackintosh for music production and heard xeon's are better for that) and Crucial DDR3 Ballistix Tactcal LP 2x8GB 1600 c8 If i'm correct these 3 should all be compatible with a hackintosh (Found the stuff on a hackintosh compatible list ) Thanks for the info. dreadkopp
since you use ddr3 ram just yet you can also use your 'old' ram with your new build. i am not 100% sure about the 4790k since the latest intel cpus need kernel patching. You might be better off with a xeon e5 like the macpro 6,1 uses. i run my hack on older hardware (1366 hexacore) so i'm not sure about recent hardware
