Hello everyone.

I'm a building a brand new Mackintosh in a Power Mac G5 case and I decided to go with the best parts in I could afford in my budget. I read some guides on here and found out Gigabyte mobos were generally compatibly so I purchased a GA-99-UD4.  As for the graphic card I want to purchased a Gigabyte GTX 970.

I found some guides for X99 but they are for Mavericks and I hear I need Yosemite for GTX 970 support. That's about as far as I have gotten.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Bomerr

P.S. I am running Yosemite release caudate on my Macbook Pro right now.

I personally have not seen a lot of successful X-79 MB let alone your latest X99 MB. I would recommend you try install Mavericks first as there is really no official installer support for Yosemite yet as Apple still has not officially release final GM of Yosemite to the public. It is expected before the end of this month but not a certainty. If you can successfully install Mavericks into your new rig, you can get free Yosemite from apple APP store while running Mavericks.

Intel HASWELL CPU has early restart issue and needs patched kernel. I have no idea about your i7 5820K HASWELL-E  CPU. I expect probably early restart issue.

To install Mavericks, I recommend following guides:

For patching Haswell kernel to prevent early reboot, please read the following:

Good luck buddy, you are pretty much a pioneer when it comes to X99 MB. I had similar situation with Xeon E1250 V3 with server chipset C226. I managed to install Mavericks 10.9.4 using Clover EFI bootloader because that was the only bootloader that allow me to install Mavericks into my Lenovo ThinkServer TS140. I am using Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 as workstation. Personally I prefer Chameleon Bootloader because I don't quite understand Clover EFI bootloader but I was kind of force into learning Clover as Chameleon even with patched Haswell mach_kernel, I still got early reboot.

I recommend you let people know complete components of your rig.

For the kernel to work you patch it because Haswell-E is not supported yet (back up the kernel first). This assumes your install drive is named "USB":

perl -pi -e 's|\x74\x11\x83\xF8\x3C|\x74\x11\x83\xF8\x3F|g' /Volumes/USB/System/Library/Kernels/kernel

What are you talking about?

I have supported x79 for over 2 years and have full support for x99 as well. Seems you are not informed at all as most of the information you have listed is incorrect. .

To Phil511,

I was like you as before i got chameleon run on my system, tried to learn clover and it never go anything. Until i got a Asus motherboards and chameleon bootloader could not boot, that time i look to clover and it is easy to go with. After that on all my machine, I put on or at least try with clover boot loader first.

Back to the topic, I don't know if Apple will add support to Haswell-E for native kernel or not, I Like to one system with cpu like 5820k ( my budget can allow) if it got native support.
