GT 730 causes blinking of the screen

Hello,

I recently installed new graphics card (GIGABYTE GT 730 Ultra Durable 2 2GB DDR5) to avoid problems with Intel HD 4400 (screen flickering). Although it solved the issue with flickering, new problem has appeared. When using browser or Launchpad (or anything else), screen randomly fades black for a fraction of a second. If it happens within Launchpad, Launchpad immediately closes itself. Overall this behavior is really annoying and disallows me working on this desktop.

Here is how it looks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC7pnWy037w (I hit no keys while recording this video)

Occurs in both Mavericks and Yosemite (PB 3), with stock drivers either nVidia web drivers.

Can anybody please tell me what is going on here?

Hello, same fail here. I played a little with the bios settings but no luck. It's very annoying and no much info in internet. I guess we have to wait for a new apple/nvidia driver. Using a GPU GL test the error appear frequently, so it should be related to GL driver. Sorry to do not aport more help.

First impression of GT730:

Just received yesterday (11/13/2014) the Gigabyte GT 730 (GV-N730D5-2GI) and the system now has the flicker to black screen (momentarily) issue. I swapped out a Galaxy GT640 (no issues with it, BTW) and swapped in the GT 730 running 10.9.5. Machine is a Dell 960 Core2Duo (E8500) with 6 GB DDR2 RAM that dual boots Windows 7 and MacOS. No issues in Windows, BTW.

Hi,

Has someone tried the GT730 in 10.10 ? What boot flags are you using ? What driver version ?

Is it fully working without issues ?

Thanks....

Sorry to 'revive' this post, but I noticed that this wasn't solved.

This did happen to me with my ASUS GeForce GT 730 with OS X Mavericks 10.9.

If you haven't downloaded the NVIDIA's WebDriver for your OS X version then do so. It will fix a lot of Graphics problems for your Hackintosh and it will give you a proper display settings. OS X's default graphics driver isn't cut out for your card.

BTW, If you install the WebDriver and you get very weird problems with your text on Safari (i.e. Your text looks 'corrupt', with weird lines running through them) then open System Preferences > General > Un-tick 'Use LCD font smoothing when available' > Then restart Safari.

BTW if your using OS X 10.9, then you can use this link for a NVIDIA's OS X 10.9 WebDriver: http://us.download.nvidia.com/dMfCTEwWd5bvEIglG4b8ya6U4erhZeeC/WebDriver-331.01.01b07.pkg

Hello.

Sorry for necro this topic.

I have the same issue as TS. I have Gigabyte GT 730 GDDR5 and my screen flickers for a second in some apps like Launchpad, Safari, phpStorm and others.

I run macOS sierra 10.2.2.

My monitor connected via DVI. Latest drivers from nVidia are installed.

I tried changing mac model to 12.1 and others, tried ncpi=0x3000 (I have pci express 3.0), applied dsdt patch for my CPU(g3258), disabled IGPU in BIOS. No luck.

I noticed that screen flickering occurs in GPU specific tasks such as graphic rendering in browser (for example, when a slider with large images slides).

Has anyone found any solution?

Many thanks!

I too have this problem! there is no solution? :(

clockT, BTW I tried to connect my monitor via VGA (D-SUB) and the flickering disappeared, but there is no opacity and I started to get kernel panics sometimes...

It seems that there is no solution...
