loz_the_guru
I'm running into a few issues when trying to get Windows 7 up and running on my Hackintosh. First my hardware: Gigabyte Z-87N-WIFI Intel 45670K Asus GTX 760 Corsair 1600 2x4GB Corsair 430w CMX PSU M4 Crucial 128GB SSD - OS X install drive\ WD 1TB HDD - 700GB HFS+ partition, 300GB NTFS Windows install partition Fractal Node 304 Case OS X Version: 10.9.2 Here's how the install went: Initial install of OS X fine, very stable and running for six months ish. I recently replaced the bootloader from Chimera to Clover in order to use the mouse to select an OS, in prep for the Windows install. Clover is up and running, and equally seems fine. I disconnected my SSD (OS X boot drive), and went ahead and installed Windows 7 onto the 300GB partition. This was originally formatted in FAT32, but I re-formatted it in NTFS before the install took place. All went well, I installed drivers etc, rebooted several times, then re-connected the SSD. This is where I ran into problems. Clover can see the Windows install, and it shows up on the boot screen, but when I select it it hangs at a blinking cursor. A quick google shows a fix for this, and suggests it's a problem with the master boot record. The solution i've seen mentioned is to re-boot via the Windows Installation DVD, go to command prompt and enter the following: 1- c:/Bootrec.exe /FixMbr 2- c:/Bootrec.exe /FixBoot 3- c:/Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd My worry here is that I will damage my OS X install/Clover in some unforeseen way, as i'm not sure of how the boot sectors interact with each other. Any thoughts here? Am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Will the above solution work? All comments appreciated!
MacUser2525
Almost sounds like the SSD is now first drive in the system try switching the cables, windows does not like its drive order being different from when it was installed OS X could care less. You would need to set the SSD as first drive in the boot options to use the clover as boot loader or use your F12 key to get the boot menu at start up to select the drive/os to boot. fusion71au
@loz_the_guru, It looks like you have a similar issue to @powermapler who had problems dual booting OSX and legacy (MBR) Windows (installed on separate drives) with Clover. Try @dmazar's suggestion from post#5268 in the Clover General Discussion Thread (BIOS set to boot in both UEFI and legacy mode) set Clover option as first one in boot order in UEFI/BIOS screen set your legacy windows drive as second one in boot order in UEFI/BIOS screen set Boot/Legacy=LegacyBiosDefault in Clover's config.plist And then selecting any legacy entry in your Clover main menu should boot your legacy windows If you still have problems, I would suggest you reinstall UEFI Windows on a GUID partitioned drive with EFI partition. It is much easier to dual boot OSX & UEFI Windows with Clover. Good Luck!
loz_the_guru
HI All, Fusion7A1: I have tried fiddling around with boot orders and Legacy/UEFI modes in the BIOS, but no avail. The bios is also unusual, as I can't seem to select a boot order - it has a boot menu, but this is a one time only deal. Otherwise I can prioritise either UEFI or legacy, but not particular drives which is very strange. It may be that I am missing something, however i've had a good poke around and still nothing. MacUser2525: I was about to try your method when I stumbled on a surprising solution. By selecting Exit from within Clover, the system boots straight to Windows. I've no idea why this is, but it work consistently and with no discernible issues, so i'm more than happy to use it without further tinkering. Thank you both for the responses/suggestions! coffee5
I'm experiencing a similar problem and would like some help. I have OSX (clover) and UEFI Windows 7 installed on separate SSDs. When booting Windows 7 from the clover start-up, it transitions to a screen with an apple logo (as if booting OSX) and then a black screen. At this point, the only option is to restart/shutdown. When booting Windows from BIOS after the failed clover attempt, I am sent to Windows recovery mode.
wrlee
set Boot/Legacy=LegacyBiosDefault in Clover's config.plist For those having problems, I found that, when first selected in the Clover Configurator, a LegacyBiosDefaultEntry field appears (if you do not see it, you have to de-select LegacyBiosDefault, then reselect it). I am not sure what this setting is, but I set it to 1, since my System Reserved partition/volume is the first on the legacy drive. Luckily that worked. I remember specifying LegacyBiosDefault, before, without setting the …Entry value and that did not work.
