I recently installed OS X 10.9 on my HP computer. It all works except for the internet. I have a Ethernet cable connected to a router and it all works. When I open the networks application in the system preferences the app shows that the Ethernet cable is connected but the computer does not have an IP Address. how to I get the computer connected to the internet?

If its set to DHCP make sure your router/DHCP server is giving out addresses.

If its set to Manual/Static then make sure you have the address, gateway, and network mask set properly.

If both those are right then install a Kext with proper support for your ethernet nic/chipset.

Since you didn't bother to give a model number/name for your computer we can't tell you which one (yet).
