HP Pavilion G6 1216tu - Making Progress - 85%

Well, I picked up a HP Pavilion G6 1216tu (AUS) the other day, with a measly 2GB RAM, and with a WIFI whitelist in the BIOS.

I downgraded the BIOS to version F.33 with the whitelist removed (thanks Donovan6000), and replaced the built in unsupported WIFI card with my spare Atheros AR9285 (no working Bluetooth yet tho).

For some insane reason, I cannot boot with kext cache, and I also need to use -v, or the whole system seems to freeze. The only other things not working the way I want is sound (VoodooHDA 2.7.3 seems to like panicking on startup), 2.8.4 works, but no volume control from the menu bar (only the prefs panel) and also a few of the shortcut FKeys. I am not fussed about the FKey shortcuts tho. Also, I tried both kexts for R1000 and RTK81xx and no built-in RJ45 Ethernet working as of yet. Also, the card reader is not working. Dammit, camera activates but never works. I believe it is a UVS camera, so may need drivers?

Now, a list of things I have working perfectly:

WI-FI -- untested, but seems to be functioning perfectly with Atheros40 device ID edit.

Backlight (seems to be perfect, even after sleep/wake)

Sleep/Wake - need to press power button to wake computer, but it is better that way I think.

SpeedStep - RevoGirl's latest script worked very well

Intel HD Graphics 3000 QI/CE - some artifacts very rarely, I need to look into this issue some more, I am not using any injection in org.chameleon.Boot.plist

Keyboard and Trackpad - Using Voodoo-PS-Controller kext, and have multitouch scrolling (secondary click doesn't work with tap).

USB - All ports working at full USB2.0 speed

That's all for now, I am going to try to get camera and card reader working first, then concentrate on HD 3000 graphics perfection. I did manage to start it twice with kernel cache, but I think it is a bluetooth issue that is freezing the PC on startup, so will do some more research on that...

More news as it happens.

The biggest pain is the emergency BIOS flash required to remove the WIFI whitelist. There are working non-whitelist BIOS'es on www.bios-mods.com

Sorry I did not complete this section, I cross-graded to my Acer Aspire 4752, and then sold this laptop (with Win7). I did have way more success though, than is written here. I got lid sleep/wake working, and also bluetooth (had to boot into ubuntu live CD, and enable bluetooth -- then patched a USB section in plugins in IO BluetoothController kext, and it was then enabled in OSX).
