Yesterday i modifyed my BIOS, Unlocked every option, updated some drivers+firmware, microcode etc...

What does the updates brings to me? Nothing visible at all...

Dont modify your bios, it can go wrong! if you have a SPI Programmer, modify your bios :-)

Today, i just checked all the Bios settings i unlocked...

It is million of settings, never seen that much settings ever, on any bios...

I activated "LakeTiny Feature"

There are no descriptions for this option, i found out by searching in the internet:

that it activates some RST Optimizations and Powersavings... (Sounds to me that this setting is useless)

(Just to say here: i use RST Rom 13.1.0...)

Okay, booted again into OSX, nothing changed, etc...

But after i was 6-7 Hours on batterylife, i had 12% batterylife left...

My first thought was: WTF? My Laptop was never that long on batterylife...

This was 1-2 hours ago!

Now i charged my battery again and after osx calculated remaining time, i get 10 Hours of batterylife!!!

I never had that much, it was before something like 6Hours max.

But now its 10Hours!!!

I've attached a screenshot for peoples that don't believe this...

I can make some pictures from my bios settings too, if anyone want!

This is related to Users, that know how to Modify Bios!

Its not a Thread for anyone, that never Flashed a bios, and going to Ask how to do this!

You need to understand, that if you brick your Laptop, it will be a piece of {censored}!

For anyone else, that know what he need to do and for anybody, that want to risk a brick, You are Welcome :-)

One thing left, i have Ami (Aptio) Bios,

That means i can provide infos only for AMI ppl :-)

One thing: I need to confirm this, if this was exactly that setting, because i had Deactivated in bios options MSR 0xE2 (15) lock and some other things...

But im 95% sure, that it was this "LakeTiny Feature"

UPDATE: I forgot that i updated yesterday OSX from 10.9.2 to 10.9.3(13D55), it can be that this comes from that update...

Now im really confused if this Thread makes sense, if it really was 10.9.3 update...

Need to check that tomorrow exactly...

Cheers :-)

Ive uploaded it :-)

DO NOT FLASH it! Even on UX301LA! There are 2 UX301LA Versions, and both have different BIOS!

This is meant just for check inside the file!

@Donovan6000

Upload me your bios, i can activate all the hidden Features if you want!

So you can confirm, if you get same improvement in Batterylife!

Cheers :-)

Thanks!

I was just curious about the modifications that you made to the bios rom. I've worked extensivley with Insyde bios before, but I haven't looked at any Aptio bios yet :)

I wish I could help you confirm the battery life improvements, but I don't own a UX301LA board

Yes, thats not a problem, but any other Haswell based (HM87) Laptop should have this option too! (Its definitive not UX301 Exclusive)

Since Macbook11,1/2/3 and MacbookAir6,2/1 have it activated by default!

Apple provide in this Macbooks a SSDT-LakeTiny...

So that why i think, that every haswell, have this option! It's just disabled, if you don't own a Macbook!

SSDT-LakeTiny.dsl (Attached) from MacbookPro11,1

Cheers :-)

Okay, i have now Loaded Optimized Defaults in BIOS...

And enabled only LakeTiny Feature...

So there is just 3 Options left:

1. 13.1.0 Sata Orom Update

2. LakeTiny Feature

3. OSX 10.9.3 Update (13D55)

Im going to reinstall OSX to 10.9.2 next days, to get exactly what it is!

I have still unbelievable Battery runtimes: (Attached Picture)

_______________

More info to batterylife:

This increasement i get now from 6 to 10 Hours, is with enabled Wifi & Low Display Brightness! & Surfing!

If i disable Wifi, i get 11Hours (with minimal Display brightness) (Keyboard light ON)

On moderate use: Middle Brightness, KBLight ON, Spotify, Chrome, Wifi: 7:30Hours

And with Powerusage: Everything on & max, CPU intensive apps, i get 3:30 (before i got 3:20)

This was not possible before.

What i found out, if you do nothing, you get the greatest improvement...

I think this comes from my 2 SSD's, i think the system power OFF them now immediately if there is no write or read to them!

And before, they was maybe on idle and still consumed power...

I get this Battery improvement on Windows (8.1) too...

BUT! On windows it's from 7 Hours before to 8 Hours now, so not that much as on osx!

And yes, i got before better Batterylife on Windows, but now this changed Completely!

_________

Im digging into this! Maybe i can ask CodeRush to make a patch (like PMPatch) for this!

But after im 100% sure, that this is happen because "LakeTiny Feature" is activated!

Cheers :-)

UPDATE:

Source: https://communities.intel.com/thread/45554

Hello DagMoen,

Thanks for waiting and I apologize for the delay on coming back with you. Based on a research, Lake tiny is a "technology" consisting of SSD performance & power optimizations; basically power states settings for SSDs.

It’s supported with Intel RST (rapid storage technology) 12.0 and above and is supported by QM87/HM87/Q87/Z87 chipsets. It is important to say that the bios must have enabled the setting.

What i did:

Updated the RST Rom to: 13.1.0

Enabled LakeTiny!

Seems i have right, what i thinked before!

My Laptop have 2x SSD (UX301LA)

-> And it seems indeed, that they are powered OFF now everytime if there is no Read/Write to them! instead of Idle.

But i going to test anyway next days with 10.9.2!

Cheers :-)
