Hi !

I start a new topic from the one from gazzacbr since it's solved (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/293967-solved-asus-rog-laptops-with-kepler-cards-not-detecting-dp-2-connected-lcd-display/page-8?do=findComment&comment=2008724).

I have an Alienware M17X R4 and with 10.9.1 I can have full acceleration on a VGA display but nothing on internal monitor (120Hz connected with display port). With 10.9.2 nothing is working.

I put a ioreg export in attached file.

I know AREOS find a way with efi string to tell driver the good port to use.

If you have any solution, I will take it.

Thanks

Hi, I need more info to find which EFI sting is good for your setup, first what happened on 10.9.2? your VGA screen goes black?, did you tried HDMI? Have you tried Nvidia web drivers? if so what happened? did your internal screen works on any setup?

Good luck

Hi.

So with 10.9.2, VGA Screen goes black when the desktop is supposed to be launched. I try with both drivers but with the same result. My internal screen never worked, but VGA did until 10.9.2. HDMI just make a light grey screen with 10.9.1 and nothing with 10.9.2 (it's like the setup program before the onset of the welcome message).

Normaly the nVidia GTX680M should be supported out of box by OS X as this card is sell with iMac high-end configuration. So I realy supposed that's a detection port problem.

If you want me to make some tries just ask.

Streight before the desktop startup I can see 2 shorts messages about unsupported ship by nVidia thermal sensors program, but it's very fast and I never find a way to get it in some log message. Maybe there is some clue here.

Thanks for your help.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi AREOS. I made a lot of test with both version of OSX, with both version of drivers and here is a little summary:

====== Mac OS X 10.9.1 ======

Apple Driver:

  • Internal Screen: nothing
  • VGA: working with full acceleration
  • HDMI: Fix light grey image just like before login screen should appear

nVidia Web Driver:

  • Internal Screen: nothing
  • VGA: nothing
  • HDMI: Blinking screen (like it was founding some signal then immediately lost it again and again)
====== Mac OS X 10.9.2 ======

Apple Driver:

  • Internal Screen: Reboot when desktop should start
  • VGA: Reboot when desktop should start
  • HDMI: Reboot when desktop should start

nVidia Web Driver:

  • Internal Screen: nothing
  • VGA: nothing
  • HDMI: Blinking screen (like it was founding some signal then immediately lost it again and again)

I hope this will help you understand what's going on.

Thanks for your help.

Hi sorry for the delay, it´s strange you get nothing to work with the Nvidia Web driver, are you sure you boot with nvda_drv=1 flag? if so did you see the message NVDAStartup:Web in boot log?

The reboot issue is something I got too since 10.9.2 first beta. I tried everything and issue is still there.

the Efi string does´t work in 10.9.1 kext because Apple nvidia drivers detects all outputs with the same port.

the efi string works great with nvidia web driver.

A work around for get your vga working in 10.9.2 is to use NVDAResman and NVDAGK100Hal kexts from 10.9- 10.9.1, just changing this 2 kext you will have a working machine.

Good luck!!
