2008 Macbook Pro GPU

Hi everyone. I hope someone knows the answer to this. I have searched everywhere. Having abandoned my OSX86 project I was given an early 2008 Macbook Pro with the dreaded Nvidia 8600 GPU. It had Mountain Lion on it and the screen was covered in yellow and blue blocks of pixels. Totally unusable. So I installed Snow Leopard and not a problem one, runs great. Update to 10.6.8 and now rarely I will see those pixel blocks for just a second on certain websites and when screensaver kicks in they pop up now and then. No biggie really, I can live with it but I have not tried to play a movie yet. I'm assuming it will pop up blocks. My question is, is there a way to lessen the load on the GPU? Maybe a profile or something? iStat shows perfect operating temps across the board. Thanks for any help. :-)

One more thing, I have baked the logic board to try and correct the problem. Did not work. Reset NVRAM and all that as well.
