Software:

-Intel Power Gadget

-Geek bench

-Redcine-X Pro

  • The route I took was using UEFI, Secureboot was still active but I had CSM on “Other OS”
  • I chose Chameleon route.
  • OC active, Sync’d All Cores(42), XMP Profile 1 possibly. Prime95 stable for ~2.5hrs.
  • -v cpus=1 npci=0x2000 is your friend.

Details:

Originally was running an i7-2600K then upgraded to the i7-4930K. The original build was straight forward installing Mavericks but this install has been the most challenging ever of 10.9.2. What a frelling nightmare!!

Where to start:

  • I used rampagedev myHack method.
  • Format thumb-drive(as explained on rampagedev)
  • Make sure there is a copy of Mavericks.app in applications
  • Install myHack to the USB thumb-drive(again as explained in rampagedev)
  • If it asks "to patch installer for MBR support", I chose No.
  • Continue myHack install method on rampagedev.

Up until Part 4: Post install, I ran into some issues with hangups, see below.

CKRH2Tl.jpg

Issues you are going to run into while trying to boot your install for the first time: happened on my end.

  • [iOBluetoothHCIController][protectedBluetoothHCIControllerTransportShowUp]
  • flow divert kctl disconnect (0): disconnecting group 1”.

How to resolve ^^^ issues:

Reboot back to your usb installer with (-v cpus=1 npci=0x2000) and you need to manually replace the kernel on your ssd with the one on your usb by doing:

  • Run Terminal at the beginning of the install. Its on the toolbar.
  • Copy mach_kernel from USB thumb drive to root of main mavericks install.

  • “cd /Volumes/myHack [Tab] key to auto-complete
  • pwd - make sure of location
  • ls - make sure mach_kernel is there.
  • cp mach_kernel /Volume/Name Of the disk. [Tab] Use tab to auto-complete
  • quit Terminal.

Run myHack from the toolbar:

  • Select the myFix option to fix permission issues, etc.
  • If asked select “quick” and yes “Use Generic one”
  • (you will end up replacing generic with custom ones from X79 DSDT DMG from rampagedev)
  • Once it is all done fixing, reboot into your ssd and give it time. I know it looks like it is stalling out but be patient.

“Also there maybe a major delay during the time you see the apple log, the round ticker and the setup. You might notice the same thing during apple logo->login screen->workspace” Just give it time."

GO BACK AND FINISH THE myHack TUTORIAL

Just a hint to get you started on ^^^^

  • Go to “How To Use The DMG” page on the rampagedev site.
  • Install the first kext files using kexthelper(provided at rampagedev).
  • Reboot when it is done. Leave audio alone for now, I did.
  • Reboot is done, copy the necessary ssdt.aml file to Extra.

Now to fix the slow load up, slow login respond issue.

Mine was slow to load, about 4mins load to desktop, compared to my old setup on 2600K(20secs).

Run the myHack tool again while on workspace/desktop.

Perform the following tasks one by one, once you have gone through all of them. Reboot.

  • Install Chameleon — if this was your choice of boot loader.
  • Remove Problematic Extensions. (It will ask a few questions about removing some .kext files, kindly select “No” on all)
  • Enable TRIM
  • Patch AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement
  • Reboot the machine

Load up times should be faster, again, mine had these issues but went away.

If you still experience the same slow start up issues, run the myHack->myFix on Root drive. Answer No on all questions, select quick.

AUDIO: Pandora

  • ALC892
  • HDAEnabler
  • Install the build
  • Reboot and sound should be online.

My sound would not install via pandora for some odd reason so I cheated.

For those who are doing some OverClocking, RampageDev just posted LGA2011 OC Bios/UEFI instructions. I did Sync all cores and XMP profile 1 I believe. If you have a stable OC in windows then these same settings should work in OSx.

  • If you have an OC of 4.0-4.5
  • (do not bother creating your own ssdt.aml file using the ssdtPRGen.sh script.)
  • Copy the SSDT-1.aml file inside X79 DSDT/Files/Power Managment/SSDT/4930K/4.5 GHz and paste it inside the Extra folder currently located at Root of your OSx install drive.
  • Reboot.

Now I wrote this at 1am so I will fix any anomalies with the steps later. I will help anywhere If I can.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I had the same problems as you did with my install. I used the install tutorial from the main forum page here. I ran across the same hang up, but once I added the same boot flags as you, it solved the os install problems.

My setup

MSX79MA-GD45

i7-4930k

16 GB ram

evga 620 gpu

120 gb pny ssd (for now)

Are you using the voodooTCSync.kext?

Also, did you get the patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement from the iHack install or somewhere else?

My first attempt I was getting stuck there as well. The second

  • [iOBluetoothHCIController][protectedBluetoothHCIControllerTransportShowUp]
  • flow divert kctl disconnect (0): disconnecting group 1”.

The issue I'm getting now is that I'm getting unsyncronized TCS errors on startup. I'm not overclocking. In my bios, the cpu setting are showing different turboboost limits, and I'm wondering if there's some setting in the bios that's causing the problem. 10.8.4 on the exact same computer does not show this error.

While my board is different, there may be some similar setting in the bios to yours. There's very little about this error on the forum or on the net in general.

Also, where did you get the trim for ssd from? I found one here http://www.mactrast.com/2013/11/enable-trim-ssds-os-x-mavericks/

Any thoughts appreciated.

I do actually use the voodoo kext provided in the DMG pack. The appleintelcpumanagement is used from the myhack application.
The trim application is installed from the pandora app.

You might want to bring rampagedev into this either via this forum or his wordpress site @ rampagedev.wordpress.com
A screenshot of the issue might be helpful too.

Alright. I went ahead with a complete wipe then reinstalled.

Yes, I do use voodoo kext, I just did not pay close attention to the kexts I was loading into the KextHelper program.

I also did get some sort of cpu time error after first install(boot) and it would lock there on verbose mode. It would not boot that ssd install.

  • Fixed by booting into myHack installer usb
  • Ran myFix
  • Remove problematic extensions
  • Copied mach kernel from myHack usb thumb drive->/Volume/main install drive.
  • Rebooted

The Audio patch script  ALC892-master does indeed work. I needed to change some settings to get it online.

  • I got it to work by doing. System Preferences->Output->Internal Speakers[Type: Built-in].

So just follow the Rampagedev site instructions with a bit of help from here and you should be good to go.

Oh! I did install the new security updates from App Store. http://arstechnica.com/security/2014/04/iphones-and-macs-get-fix-for-extremely-critical-triple-handshake-crypto-bug/

Hope that helps.

You'll notice when I quoted your post, that's what's said, but this is what I see on my screen:

"I don't touch voodoo kext on my setup. The appleintelcpumanagement is used from the myhack application.

The trim application is installed from the pandora app.

I'm not sure there's a difference betwen what appears in the post and what appears in the quote.

I have done a third install, using RampageDev's instructions, and yours. It's still showing the unsynchronized TSC errors as well as "unknown cpu model 0x3e"

When I use the myhack appleintelcpumanagement instead of the vanilla one, I get a kernal panic because of the new kext

bootflag usekernalcache=no

You know it's bad when you do a search for a problem on google, and your own post is the first to come up.... lol

Yes I actually edited my posts above to correct my error in saying that I did not use voodoo kext. It's like time traveling, sort of.

Can you please post a screenshot for all to see the error?

"cpus=1 npci=0x2000 UseKernelCache=No PCIRootUID=1?"

"Use the boot flag "CPUS=1", that should help get you past the initial boot problems. You may still need to set other boot flags like PCIRootUID= 1 or 0 and npci=0x2000 or 0x3000."

By the way, I have "Sync all Cores" option online in my bios. It is @42 for 4.2GHz OC. Perhaps unsynchronized TSC errors is the result of not having synced cores?

Try this.

-x -v cpus=1 npci=0x2000

About the TSC problem, it may be the kernel (unsupported CPU family) so what do you get when you run this terminal command:

sysctl hw.cpufamily

If it is any of the following than that is fine:

CPUFAMILY_INTEL_NEHALEM 1801080018
CPUFAMILY_INTEL_WESTMERE 1463508716
CPUFAMILY_INTEL_SANDYBRIDGE 1418770316
CPUFAMILY_INTEL_IVYBRIDGE 526772277
CPUFAMILY_INTEL_HASWELL 280134364

Hi Flux

My second install is a working install. I tried your install method on my third try to see if I got the same errors and I did. I will post a screen shot later. I was using the kernel flags you've suggested during install, but in the end need to get it to work without cpus=1. In the working system, I use graphicsenabler=no, usekernalcache=no, and npci=0x3000 IGPEnabler=yes.

The MSI board does not as far as I can see have a sync all cores feature, but then I'm not overclocking it, so perhaps if I turn overclocking on, it will give me that option and that will solve the unsynchronized TCS errors.

I am pretty sure at this point it's a bios issue. I have another MSI X79A-45 (the regular version not the mini atx) with two bios and a switch to go back and forth. That MB has a i7 3820, and when I put it on bios 7735 v1.6 (before the ivy bridge-e's came out) using the 3820 cpu, there are no unsynchronized TCS errors, and no unrecognized cpu error. With the newer version of the bios 7735v2.7, using the 3820 cpu there are errors unsynchronized TCS errors, but no unrecognized cpu error. The board will not even start up with the i7-4930 without 7735v2.3 or later bios

Pike

I ran the command and for the i7-4930k it returns 526772277

So in other words ( and here's the bottom line) If I can eliminate the unsynchronized TCS errors, even if I get the unrecognized cpu error, the install is okay then?

Well you use cpus=1 until you can install the necessary .kexts, SSDT file, Extra folder. Then booting is just straight forward without any parameters to parse.

Perhaps you should really check out rampagedev's site and ask questions there. I started this thread so it could assist with the bumps that one runs into while installing on X79 platform. Whenever you can get that screenshot would be good, maybe someone will be able to chime in on the issue.

Hi, I'm sorry I wasn't clear

The install is complete except for sound (which I will be using a PCI-E card, so not an issue) I'm booting with all 12 threads running.

I did another install on another drive using your method just to see if I got the same unsynchronized TCS errors, which I did. The reason for this was to eliminate the kexts as the issue, which I think I have. The fact that one bios, with the 3820 doesn't show them, while the more updated bios with the 4930k or the 3820 does show them leads me to look at the bios settings now.

I almost think you should have gone with an/a asus/gigabyte mobo because they seem to be the most compatible

I was thinking the same thing.... lol. I was using Asus, but then did a Mac OS install of 10.6.4 with a Rampage Gene III, and was getting weird cpu spikes with my main application, that made it useless. I forget when or why, but I found the MSI board and and it worked, so I started using them.

Anyways, here are the screen shots of the boot.

smc is giving weird errors as well as the others I've described.

Thanks.
