FierceDeityLink1
$700 - $100 instant rebate - $150 = $500 Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094 Intel 1.6Ghz Core Duo 512MB 533MHz PC4200 8x DVD-RW Intel GMA945GM 14.1" 1280x800 Glossy 80GB 5400RPM SATA HDD Intel 3945 Wireless B/G/A http://www.compusa.com/products/product_in...;ref=performics Should work out-of-the-box with 10.4.8: QE/CI at 1280x800 Intel 10/100 ethernet Touchpad, keyboard USB 2.0 Doesn't work: Intel 3945 a/b/g wireless Sound (?) - might be fixed with Azalia kext, but I'm not sure (I can't find whether it's a Realtek ALCxxx card or not) It weighs the same as a Macbook (5.2 lbs) but is slightly larger due to the screen. It also is slower in both CPU and bus speed (533Mhz vs. 667MHz). I just finished installing 10.4.8 on my friend's Toshiba Satellite A105 (Core Duo 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, GMA945GM, ALC861, 3945abg, Intel PRO/1000) and it seems like this is a very comparable laptop for a good price. Just replace the RAM with 2x1GB sticks and modify a few drivers and it should run nicely.
FierceDeityLink1
Just got it. 10.4.7 runs nicely, 10.4.8 causes a kernel panic (unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI"). Sound is 0x10EC0867 with Apple Azalia.
FierceDeityLink1
Just to add if anyone cares, the PCMCIA slot doesn't work, since the ENE Technology Inc. "CB714BF" cardbus is not supported.
Diseous
I work for a school, and we have just purchased a bunch of HP dv44o5nr. My first feat was to install OSX on it, of course the school doesn't know that, but anyway. Low and behold EVERYTHING WORKS!!! There is no needed updates, driver hacks, or deleting un-needed kext files. The laptop cost about $650.00 US, from your local electronics store. Here are the specs Intel Celeron M 1.5ghz (I know celeron sucks, but it works until the 3945 driver comes out for my other HP) 1Mb L2 Cache SSE2 1 Gb RAM 1.6Ghz Bus speed 80 G IDE HD 5400RPM Philips DVD +/-RW Intel GMA 900 VRAM (total) 256Mb (I am pretty sure that this is wrong. The BIOS states that it can only have 128Mb, but I am reading this right out of my system profiler 15" Brightview Broadcom wireless - BCM994318MPG (Shows up as an Airport Card) Realtek RTL8139 PCI Ethernet Sound MAX HD audio All volume amd wireless buttons function perfect There is one draw back. The video. In order to see the main desktop you need to either plug in another monitor, or use a paperclip dongle (search the forum) It's frickin easy to do and I have been hearing alot of people stating that this makes the laptop incompatable, but if all I have to do is plug in a few peices of wire into my monitor port that I NEVER use, I'll do it, hell I'm savin close to 500 dollars. eugmoon
Just got it. 10.4.7 runs nicely, 10.4.8 causes a kernel panic (unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI"). Sound is 0x10EC0867 with Apple Azalia. Nice find, man. For anyone else thinking of picking this laptop up, it's on sale this week at Circuit City for $100 more than it was at CompUSA: $750 - $150 mail-in rebate = $

pythonusr
Is there a way to make 1.4.7 reconize the Intel 3945 a/b/g wireless on the M115-S3094? Also, on this notebook, what about the keyboard? Does it function as it should, or do the keys only coorispond to a Macintosh keyboard? (Ex. The PrtSc Key, Pause/Break Key, and WIN key are all F13-F15?)
