Hey,

I just purchased an R9 280X hoping to use it with my hackintosh, (replacing an nvidia gtx260) but I seem to be unable to boot except in to safe mode (-x).  I have tried the normal GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No dart=0 -v -f etc.. but none work without -x.  I have a GA-Z87X-UD4H which boots perfectly fine with the gtx260.  Only change was to use the 280X.  What are my options from here?  Are there certain kext's I can move or replace to see if I can get this going?

Alright, so further investigion (it's been awhile since I had to fix stuff in hackintosh I've forgotten my way around).  The card has vendor: 0x1002 device ID: 0x6798.  I don't appear to have ATI7000Controller.kext (10.9.1), should my system have this kext or is that from 10.8?

The kext name is AMD7000Controller in mavericks. Your id is inside: 0x67981002. Set GE=No and try to boot without kernelcache. Try different ports (DVI, HDMI, DP). Chameleon/Chimera should be on EFI partition or use clover. If you get a white screen or black screen after boot, push power button for sleep and wake after a minute.

I had tried booting without kernel caches and ge = no but no dice.  If I boot using the IGFX I can see the card being recognized correctly.  The farthest I get trying to boot the r9 is the end of the verbose output, no screen changes.

Its a BIOS issue. I have 2 XFX 280X Double Black cards for testing at this time and I had to flash the BIOS to get them to somewhat work. The BIOS is the issue and I am still working on it...

I'm having an issue with a DD card. It seems like the bios posted online are all older, so I might try some of them. Mine is labled: 15.043.000.005.000000_113-TAHITI_XTL_3GD5_H_130805KLB1_W8 . Attached if it is of any use.

I can't upload it to the TechPowerUp bios directory, because it says it is already posted. I don't see anything this new though.

Edit: OK, after flashing the 10/17 bios from TechPowerUp I was able to get the card working with GraphicsEnabler=No, and without using safe mode. So, make sure you don't have a newer bios if it isn't working for you.

Flashed using the 10/17 bios for techpowerup, it worked, barely, but only momentarily.  Everything was laggy and then the system finally freed zone kernel panic'd.

Also, windows would bsod with this bios.  Bad flash?

Sorry, forgot to follow up here as well. See my post here:  I ended up failing to get it working in both OSX and Windows 8.1.

Flash a working bios for windows and use clover to load vbios at boot that works in mavericks. Ended up working for me.

Which version did you end up using? And, could you post the configuration line you used to load the vbios? I messed around with this but was never sure I was doing it correctly.

I had this problem with yosemite , xfx r9 280 dd black oc edition so what i did was dumped my gpu bios then checked it with vbe7 tool and wrote the subsystem id  down.

downloaded Asus HD 7950 3072 bios from techpowerup and changed the the subsystem id to the one i wrote down

Then save the bios, then flashed it with atiwinflash.

booted up and it was perfect  smile.png gl.
