kjp4756 Posted February 27, 2014 Share Posted February 27, 2014 I have an old MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM and the Core2Duo chip. Lion 10.7.5 is installed. I'm using it as an HTPC connected to my 65" TV via a DVDI to HDMI adapter and an optical cable going to my amp. This is working great for movies in plex. High bitrate 1080p movies work perfect. Netflix is a different story. I get bad stuttering during fast scenes. 1080p is almost unusable. 720p is at least watchable but isn't perfect. I've tried using firefox, chrome, kylo and safari. They all perform the same way with netflix. Is this expected for my hardware or should I consider doing a wipe and install 10.6? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Max resolution is 1920x1080.Thanks EDIT: Sorry, didn't read closely. If I set my resolution to 720p netflix is watchable. It is much better than 1080 in terms of less jerkiness during fast scenes. I honestly think the CPU is too weak. You can hear the fans spinning full speed when I am watching netflix. I may try and upgrade the RAM to 4GB. kjp4756 Posted March 22, 2014 Author Share Posted March 22, 2014 Now that the chromecast is available in Canada, I think I will pick one up for netflix. I reinstalled my macbook pro with 10.6. That helped tremendously. I can now at least watch netflix at 720p resolution with "Allow HD" off. After 2 hours of watching netflix it will slow down to a crawl and the sound will start looping. I'm guessing 2GB of ram isn't enough. It'll be cheaper for me to get the chromecast than it would cost to upgrade the ram. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
