Mavericks 10.9.1 Install on a HP Z820 V2 Ivy Bridge Workstation.

E5 2620V2 AMD W7000 Graphics 64 GB Ram

Here is a short description how to install Mavericks on a HP Z820 V2

You need the following.

Download Myhack

http://myhack.sojugarden.com/guide/

Download the X79 from rampagedev

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88732606/X79%20DMG/X79%20DSDT.dmg.zip

Install the mavericks installer with Myhack on your USB stick.

Replace the mach_kernel on the USB Stick with the mach_kernel found on

X79DSDT/Files/Tools/Ivy Bridge.../Mac Pro 6,1

Replace the Extra folder on the USB Stick with the extra folder found on

X79DSDT/Chameleon/Extra

Copy the chameleon and the Files folder to your USB Stick, you will need it later.

Prepare the Z820 Workstation.

Start the station with the F10 key to have access to the bios

make sure to enable AHCI as SATA Mode

Disable Vtx under the System security menu.

Only the 2 AHCI ports ( Dark Grey) will work (connector group number 11)

Now your stick and the Z820 V2 workstation are ready to install Mavericks.

After the installation you need to replace the mach_kernel and the extra folder on your Macintosh HD.

Useful terminal scripts to make the mach_kernel visible on your macintosh HD

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE;killall Finder

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE;killall Finder

For making the USB3 and the ethernet working you need to copy

AppleIntelE1000.kext and the GenericUSBHCI.kext in the Extra folder.

X79DSDT/Files/EVGA/Kexts

Not working for the moment.

Sound on board and HDMI sound on the AMD W7000

Firewire

LSI 2308 Raid

Intel SCU Ports

Any ideas welcome how to make them working.

Good Luck

Hi!!  Same here... I have a z820 with V2 xeons, and I´m  trying to get a stable hackinstosh. After a lot of attempts and researchs :) I found the solution with the patched kernel in order to install it without kernel panic problems .

My method was not very different:

To install it I used the apropiate kernel patched in the usb installer, I booted with ncpi 0x3000 PCIRootUID=0 -x -v flags.

After install it, to first boot I replaced the kernel by the same patched kernel and I used the same flags.

I Installed chimera and I modified boot.plist in order to add ncpi and PCIRoot flags.

I used some patchs to fix ethernet and usb but I wasn´t very sure.

Anyway I have USB3, graphic card, ethernet, mouse, keyboard running without problems.

So now, I have mavericks installed but I have a lot of things to refine:

-The most important: SATA ports: I have only running ACHI SATA ports. Neither SCU sata ports nor LSI 2308 integrated raid card is recognited. I dont use SCU SATA ports but I have 3 hds plugged on Lsi (no raid).

-No sound. I tried with vooodo patch (from #####) but the sound is "noisy". I´ve read websites about ALC cardsounds patchs but is too much complex for me, and I haven´t found and specific patch for this card (alc 262)

-No firewire. Not very important  but maybe could be in future

-And the most confused for me, speed steep, turbo bost, energy etc... Even I know how check them

I know patching DSDT we can fix a lot of errors. But I don´t know how do it. Patch DSDT is complex to me.

One reflexion: I know new macpro has a specific mavericks build, in order to work with 2011 socket and xeon v2 (like z820). Mavericks app store version is diferent. So if we get and I use this version maybe I´ll get full (or bettter , at least) support of z820 hardware. Awfully, it´s a little weird. Apple doesn´t public this version. Macpro has it preinstalled. To do a clean install, new macpro user have to use the partition restore. But even this partition has the installer. It´s a completly on-line method.

If someone can get access to one new macpro:

1. Format a USB stick

2. Reboot the Mac, and hold down CMD-R to get into recovery mode

3. Start a new installation and choose the USB stick as a target. You should be able to choose your normal hard drive as a target, too, because as long as the installer package is downloaded, no data should be erased, but when you decide to use a USB stick, you're on the safe side.

4. The Mac will be downloading the install package. This takes a while, the time remaining shown is not correct. If you need to have an idea how long it will take you, choose the log from the help menu during download, it will show you how many chunks are already downloaded (it was 504 chunks total for me).

5. When the download is ready, the Mac reboots automatically, pull the USB stick when it does. If you're not before your computer when this happens, don't worry, when you come back, you will be in the setup program. Just switch your machine off by pressing the power switch for more than 10 seconds, and then pull the stick.

6. On the stick you will find the "OS X Install ESD.dmg".

Thats all. Aprecciated any help

I  try to fix HDMI  sound with the help of toleda

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/292999-mavericks-applehda-hdmi-audio/

DSDT extraction is not working on the Z820v2

I have also installed Mavericks on a V420 workstation.

all sata ports are working ( AHCI mode) on this machine, because you have not to deal with the LSI 2308 Hardware raid.

Firewire is running on this machine, it has the same hardware chip as the Z420 (ID 11C1 5811).

In other forums you can read the firewire is working on a Z820, but this are not  V2 Machines.

we need some help  for the Z820 v2 from a hackintosh specialist.

I have installed a Sonnet tempo pro card with 2 samsung pro ssd on the Z820v2.

Raid booting is not working with clover ( Maybe somebody can tell me how to do it)

Simple ssd booting is OK with clover.

I have read in a other forum that Raidboot on a sonnet tempo SSD will work with chameleon boot.

Read and write is +- 500MB

Anyway, main problem is sata ports. looking for ....

Working with clover is easy. IT is the future for working with hackintosh.

prepare a clover USB boot stick it is done in 2 Minutes, and you have sound on your K5000 card.

you have not to modify your current installation.

Hi rubymac... after thousands of attemps trying to install mavericks directly with clover...I get KP or a very very very slow performance.

I gave up, and I decided follow your method, but using chameleon (myhack didn´t work for me ¿?¿?¿? ). I used mavericks 10.9.4 , expecting to have better support to socket 2011/xeon IB v2. It seems run well, but I didn't check it  in depth.

Now i´m trying to migrate to clover. I have it installed (EFI mode, using EFI partition as bootloader)  I´ve tried thousands differents configs with clover configurator .... Again, or I get KP or everything runs extremely slow. I tried with Vietnam, and it did the best config.plist so far. The computer boots, but not much better. Just a little more.

Your config file didn´t work ... clover didn´t load the configuration. Maybe because your clover version is older than mine. Any way I tried to copy it but, again it didn´t work. I only think it something related to kexts placed in /efi/clover/10.9

Could you please post a detailed of how do the migration to clover? What Kexts are you using? did you pach dsdt and/or ssdt?

This is being a huge pain in the ass ....I'm in despair...

thanks in advance

Hello,

I know this is an old topic but I use this workstation with same GPU.

Build info:

HP Z820 // bios 3.91

2 x Xeon E5 2680 V2

128 Gb DDR3

2 x ATI FirePro W7000

The requirements:

I installed Mavericks 10.9.5 because i need some apps that don't work (or not well) with superiors versions of OS X.

The problems:

I couldn't install directly 10.9.5 because of some Kernel Panics related to dual Xeons, so i installed first 10.9.1 with a patched "mach_kernel" on Clover EFI, everything worked perfectly with the patching of my DSDT (Dual Xeons, Dual Firepro, 128Gb ECC DDR3...), then i installed the combo update to 10.9.5 and restarted.

On reboot, all i got is a grey screen with the ball cursor.

I post some screenshots of the current issue, i tried various FakeSMC and also renaming to GFX1 the GPU in the DSDT, but nothing helped.

I don't know what changed between 10.9.1 (when everything was working fine) and 10.9.5 (where i have no more GPU and can only boot in Safe Mode).

Tomorrow i will try with another GPU (a have a Quadro K4000) to see if it change something (but i need to work with dual W7000 for OpenCL).

Thanks in advance for any help.
