I didn't mention anything that was not already stated here.

just for info

First, I need the Kalyway 10.5.3 Comboupdate.

what you ask is a direct link for something that Apple calls "piracy" and we do not allow this kind of thing

again

and the link that you point, it talks about of the public updates, not tampered.

As Kalyway's instructions suggested, the first thing I did was buy a copy of OS X.

if you own a retail OS X DVD you wouldn’t need to download a distro anyway.

To top off the ridiculousness, you also posted in the wrong place - this should have been in post-installation, since you are trying to update an existing install.

If you must use a distro and you can't find the update for Kalyway then forget it and try iPC 10.5.6 or Jas Client/Server 10.5.4 instead, either one should work just as well.

The HARD way is to use the actual combo update from Apple, and have your workarounds in place before running it so that crucial patches (those required for your installation to boot at all) don't get overwritten in the process. First you need to find out what was so special about the Kalyway update (there must be some information somewhere?) and more importantly, which drivers are patched on your existing installation. The good news is that you only need to care about those that are actually loading. You'll be doing some major detective work.

I happen to remember downloading that update myself 5 years ago. Which, in Hackintosh Scene Years is like five million years give or take. We're not trying to hide it from you or unwilling to share, the update is simply lost to the mists of time and nobody knows where to get it anymore.

I'm not entirely sure whether or not it would be "illegal" to provide a link to a modified update for a 5 year old obsolete OS. But that's another discussion.

About the old guide you're following - moderators did not and do not read every single post or topic that is started here, have you seen how huge InsanelyMac is? We can't possibly keep up with everything that goes on here. I have edited it now and changed it to what it should have said in the first place. Better late than never,

Note that your hardware is barely compatible, despite what others have said it's probably a wise decision to stick to Leopard because it's from the same time frame as your hardware.

Here is a post from an old friend of mine that you might find useful: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/209192-how-to-safely-update-when-you-cant-run-the-vanilla-kernel/

Thanks Gringo and dcai for the useful info. The link above is informative. Some kind soul has answered my original request  so in a few hours I will take a crack at following the directions in the other post. If that is not successful, I may take a crack at Snow Leopard. I have Xubuntu (and Win 8.1) already running on the device and am about of patience with this. If all community help is this painful, I definitely need to stick with the communities I already participate in. I've unfollowed this thread and am going to move on. I would submit that it would be best to lock and or delete the thread. Thanks again.
