Hi from miami, Fl USA

I recently started researching Hackintosh. Have made a couple Hackintosh laptop with dual boot window 7.

A friend of mine is a Apple "fan"atic and wants my help in building a hackintosh for him which I think is a sweet idea would love to put that into my list of "s**t" i built over the years.

I have done my research and feel that I know little still about building a hackintosh. Software wise with the OSx I do understand after leopard they completely pushed out powerpc (AMD processing) for intel processor. So I do know the build will be around Intel (i5.i3, atom) but other hardware wise I do not know. I have done some more research on the graphic, they do say I can use almost any graphic card but to make things less complex to go with Intel base graphic especially if not gaming which my friend might not do.

I am glad to see a forum group dedicated in hackintosh.

I wouldn't mind for any advice

I believe what we might be going for is a Mac mini

But I recently found a Power PC G5 series in a dump site and decide to take it home with me.

No idea where I can go from here but ;) this adventure is going places

case with full accessory including screen (screen has a broken back hinge that props it up, don't think it is repairable since it is a part that takes the full load of the 23 inch screen)

Beautiful Aluminum case from apple

G5 series (PowerPC) Hard drive was fried no surprise was a Maxtor brand. Those hard drive burn out after 5 years of use. 2/3 the normal lifespan of any hard drive

Welcome Razzle,

if I  got it right you're planning an PowerMacG5-case mod with core-i-inards?

Best you be to have a close look at the osx-wiki (linked in the header of this site), so you can choose most compatible pc-parts. For the case mod use the search engine of your choice with "PowerMac G5 ATX mod" and visit the Laser Hive or similiar shops for parts. I have also seen a few PM G5 mod among the users of this site, so check here first ;-)

Best regards,

Thank you Laberlohe the wiki link is awesome!

makes figuring out whats compatible a lot simple.

I will look through the forum I came from bit-tech forum saw few G5 mods and now that I have my own case would love to mod mine

I will also look into laser Hive :) sounds like a good site to research parts

I will search around on here seeing what other G5 mod there are :)

I wonder if water cooling is a way to go as well?

I have a Corsair H100 that is not in use right now wanted to using it on an xbox 360 mod but prefer to using it where it is really useful. Thinking of gaming on the Hackintosh wondering if it is worth the build if I use it to play WOW on.

Water cooling would be consequent, PM-G5 top models were using water cooling. But I dislike cases modded like boy racers with randomly attached parts. Imho a good mod isn't visiable from outside.

The H100 is a dual radiator layout and it will be difficult to place invisiably. Perhabs in the bottom were the original PSU is located. But that is just my opion and moddinng a case is a kind of customization to YOUR needs ;-)

Gaming on a Mac/Hack? How dare you? They are most advanced computers dedicated to architecture, CAD, video editing, modelling and scientific use (especially rocket science)... Just kiddin'. Serious gaming could be a problem due to the availability of game ports and drivers for latest graphic cards - but I'm not playing games aside of things running inside scummvm or on my old snes. I don't think it's reasonable building a Hack just to play WoW...

Lol the dual radiator is way to big, I can fit it in front, silver screen mash for dust guard and dual Enermax fan in the pull position will do the work fine but as you said "be difficult to place invisibly" and i agree, So change of plan going to taking the H100 apart and finding a low profile radiator for the back end to fit over where the fan hole is using again dual Enermax in the pull and push position with new line and maybe mayhem coolant in milky white or aura in milky white sound brilliant to me.

I am also thinking of either cutting a window out on the side panel lights internal to show off the build or cutting the apple out playing el panel in white and having it light up the apple cut out. What do you think?

I looked at hive site :) got to say awesome love they have a G5  a front and back convert plate so I can cut out the factory form and put the one hive has on sale, but should I either go with full atx or matx which is where I am at trying to figure out how I want the build to go. I already got an idea of how I might want the inside to look, want to play with that silver and white theme inside the case with sleeving and lights.

Going to try to fit a 750watt power board where the original power board goes, and try to have my connector stick out so I can run my power cable for the optical drive, hard drive, motherboard and so on out. Maybe find some dust guards online and place silver carbon fiber vinyl over to match the color theme or just find "G 5" mirror (chrome) vinyl cut out and place it on top of the power supply cover.

Lol I asked about gaming because a client of mine who is a WoW avi gamer want's me to build another computer for him with more power (and less cost).I built him a costume gamer PC under $800 ($300 more then he wanted to spend) for only WoW the extra $300 went toward an Nvidia low profile graphic card. He bought a wireless adapter and has been having "lag" issue. I have told him countless times never wireless it has a drawback, plenty of device uses 2.4Ghz frequency and it causes traffic which is where your lag is coming from unless his router can isolate wireless signal (most can) but his doesn't. Still says its the build so he wants me to make him a hackintosh in which it is dedicated for WoW *rolls eyes*

I honestly do not know what my best friend would like from the Mac itself.. I just know I want to build one he wants one his a big apple fan but doesn't think $2grand is an appropriate amount for an intel based PC mac lol, personally speaking I am none apple fan I hate iphones, iPad, iTouch. I fixed way to many of them to say there a "good" product. I will say iPod are nice little MP3 device Never had to fix them. But understanding mac and how to troubleshoot/build look's good on my resume.

'hoi,

around 2012 was a problem with countless topics about enlargement of certain body parts, colourful pills, financial services, private photographs of your neighbours and so. To fight this spam there were two quizzes introduced: you have to pass the first part to write to the new users lounge and the second part to post everywhere else.
