When I press restart the computer goes through the usual shutdown process, however it does not fully turn off. The screen does go black, power light and fans keep running. Pressing the caps lock key does turn it on and off. Shutdown and sleep work properly. I should probably point out that this problem already existed with Mountain Lion.

What I've tried:

  • Chameleon's RestartFix;
  • DSDT Shutdown Fix;
  • EvOReboot & OpenHaltRestart kexts.

Any ideas?

Before to restart , use process monitor to see what

apps and processes are running ...

Maybe there is something that block restart ...

OS X itself does perform an OS restart, it's the laptop that doesn't cycle power. It goes to the point everything is off but it hangs there with lights on and a black screen, instead of resetting.

I have a DV6730 with Mavericks, and I finally got it to shutdown using a patched DSDT.aml

But restart does not work, nor sleep.

How did you get sleep working?

Sleep started working naturally after working the DSDT.

My DSDT has not had the common shutdown patch applied; it's a workaround and not a proper solution. While it would indeed fix the shutdown problem, the laptop would be unable to sleep. You can search my profile for my guide, it has all the important DSDT modifications I made listed.
