No, I had been using that before it started. I reverted to make sure and there was no change, so I'm back on it. I think this Asus is just quirky. Like I said before, I'm never buying another one. The only other bit of kit I have by them is the dark knight router- and that's running someone else's custom firmware - it's purely because of the massive spec but I didn't want their crappy firmware (google "asus rtac66u" and "dd-wrt").

 

Those articles are really promising. It probably won't be until the middle of next year, but I'm really really liking the look of that GS70. I wonder what kind of support that backlit keyboard will have. :-P the backlit keys are one of the selling points for me. Obviously the majority of things working, but it's got to look good and sound good. This asus doesn't- although my sub won't work in windows or linux either... I had it replaced under warranty once. That was a mistake. Asus customer care is hands down the worst I have ever experienced. They used some butt hole outsourced company who didn't even know the difference between a memory card and memory module.

I have brightness control using that string - works well it's the backlit keys I don't have :) Everything is pretty much there, I am hoping that asusg73 will post his patched AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext because my card is sitting at about 65c. I was doing some research into the Intel HD 3000... as it happens, it's not just disabled in the BIOS, it's not physically enabled. I edited my BIOS with AMIBCP 4.5 and tried enabling it and didn't get very far, then found this:

 

"You cannot enable Optimus successfully. In order to have it work, all the output from the NVIDIA GPU needs to pass-thru the Optimus video path. On our mobos, the Optimus video path is bypassed, and the NVIDIA GPU feeds directly out. Ergo, the black screen when Optimus is enabled."

That's looking pretty good! With the 8,3 smbios too. How is YouTube playback? Does powernap work now it thinks its a laptop again? I hope this will fix my backlit keys. Sorry for the delayed reply btw. Über busy week and I've got man flu to boot ;-(

youtube have to disable hardware acceleration.  Working on some solutions to AGPM.

thank you for your files! Everything works flawlessly! I have just some problems ... "finder" reboots itself sometimes , or some lockups... which are the files you suggest not to have lockups ellnic/jeff/asusg73? I have 16 gb ram... (4x4gb) is that the prob? I have to recompile my dsdt with 16gb ram? What do you think? Thanks! Mal PS: What's the patcher in first page? don't i need patched AICPM with that for asus NB?

@ manmal, you shouldn't need a dsdt for ram.  It's picked up by chameleon and passed on to os x.  The PMPatched bio PMPatchedG73SwAS.205.zip use native AICPUPM.  But if you are scared to PMPatch your own/flash my.  Then yes, you have to use Without PMPatched Bios AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext.zip (along with patched kernel by Rehabman/not included here http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks-laptop-support/114677-haswell-early-reboot-mavericks-locked-msrs-hp-envy-15-j063cl-i7-4700mq.html).  If you don't use that kernel, you will have a bunch of xcpm errors.  Plus I found out that the way to fix gfx & newer cpu pm is through ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext.  Still trying to figure it out.

 
MacBookPro8,3 I am able to get 8, 12, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29.  But gfx pm is shot because we don't have AMD gfx, so I am trying to figure a way to import IMac13,1 Nvidia gfx pm over.

Something weird happened, I copy and pasted info within Mac-00BE6ED71E35EB86.plist to MacBookPro8_3.plist.  And I suddenly after change.tiff this happened.  So I think  these plist is controlling cpu p/c states and gpu.  Need more testing....

 

YouTube playback with hardware acceleration is working???

 

CPU p/c states controls through StepContextDict.  Would this work if we copy that to another plist?

Without paste? :-S I hope that's not thermal paste. :-P nice cool temps though. I assume you mean you changed the paste for something decent like MX4? :-)

What i mean is i did not put new paste on.  It's still the same old stuff from the day i bought it.  I am almost ready to release this package.  Pretty much everything is working including keyboard backlit/AGPM after sleep.  Just got some issue with IOUSB that i have to try to figure out.  Unless someone else want to help out

I tried to update my bios with the one here in first page (PMPatched205AS) and now my system is f*ck'd up. Start button doesn't work and even battery icon doesn't work. I upgraded bios through bios easy flash itself. It said it worked but after that my system doesn't power up. I removed battery and everything is the same.

Do you know any procedure to recover the bios itself ? I don't think there is any way to recover it, isn't there? mal

 

EDIT : i made the mistake to update the bios from ntfs disk through EZflash... damn. I will have to order a new motherboard and replace it. Is there any other procedure that i may try? Do you think that the bios is programmable again (with expert solution i mean, disassembling it, removing chip, reprogramming, and so on... ). thanks a lot. Sorry for this "off-topic" message.

 

EDIT2 : I just replaced the bios chip in the motherboard and it works again now! It was NOT a simple task. !!!!WARNING!!!! USE A FAT/FAT32 USB PENDRIVE TO UPGRADE BIOS THROUGH EZFLASH (BIOS UTILITY)!!

I upgraded bios through bios easy flash itself. It said it worked but after that my system doesn't power up. I removed battery and everything is the same.

Do you know any procedure to recover the bios itself ? I don't think there is any way to recover it, isn't there? mal

 

EDIT : i made the mistake to update the bios from ntfs disk through EZflash... damn. I will have to order a new motherboard and replace it. Is there any other procedure that i may try? Do you think that the bios is programmable again (with expert solution i mean, disassembling it, removing chip, reprogramming, and so on... ). thanks a lot. Sorry for this "off-topic" message.

That is a massive design flaw/bug and Asus should have fixed that. I am absolutely gob smacked that the issue still exists if the Asus forums are aware of it. Another huge failing on their part. For anyone else flashing the BIOS with EZflash - put the file on a FAT32 formatted key drive and flash from there.

 

New package is up... Try it out and let me know what you guys think.

Been really busy. Will be trying new files this coming week and will report back :)

Jeff , everything seems to work properly but i see that battery doesn't work... in one of your previous versions it worked. Perhaps you changed something in DSDT, correct ?

Until now i had no lockups with your new MBP8,4 files. Backlit doesn't work (dunno if it's the files, or if perhaps i damaged it when i disassembled the notebook, not a major problem for me...).

This has been the best hackintosh tutorial/thread I've come across for the G73SW.  Exceptional work guys!  I can't say that enough.  I upgraded my laptop to have a SSD and a matte screen with 1920x1080 resolution.  Mavericks looks and works great on it! 

 

I still have the ASUS bios.  I really don't want to mess with a hacked bios.  I had to use Voodoo Battery kext for my battery icon to work and for some reason the headphone port didn't work the first time I installed Mavericks (was playing around though).  The wifi card I had was the intel one and never worked on any OSX version or install.  I removed it and installed an official Apple wifi card I got off ebay.  It doesn't screw into the board, but it does fit well.  I have it taped too.  

 

I still have these 2 issues if ANYONE could help.  It would make this the PERFECT hackintosh laptop for me.  

 

1. Backlit keyboard doesn't always come back on after sleep.  If it doesn't come back on fn+num + or - doesn't work until restarting.

 

2. Laptop runs HOT. all 4 cpu cores are idling around 55-60c.  GPU is often 65 or more.  With minor use, like using chrome or safari, my cpu is cooking at 70c and the cpu is hitting 75.  When I play Warcraft the GPU is hitting 89c or more and the CPU is doing 75c or more.  The only thing that made my computer heat up even close to this under windows 7 was gaming. I'm wondering if the fans aren't spinning fast enough.  The laptop fans would be much louder during gaming on Windows.  I have no way of turning up the fans.

 

The keyboard issue is kind of annoying, but I specifically bought a laptop with backlit keyboard function in mind.  I use it a lot.  Would be awesome to have more control over it, see it work like it does on a regular macbook.  As for the heat, I feel like OSX requires more out of the hardware, I get that.  I had a macbookpro, and it would just get INSANE hot, but I'm still a little iffy about letting the GPU get so hot.  It is also uncomfortable to hold this laptop during use due to the heat omitting from the bottom and the fans.
