Nice one Jeff, I have been away on business the last few days but will try the updated kexts when I get back tomorrow. Do you have the ability to change backlit levels with the modified DSDT?

Glad it's working for you youngwake. :-D

Cool. The new kexts seem a bit faster when loading the OS and also in general. Everything works for me except the backlit kb, but I seem to remember my model had the same issue in ML. I'll have to have a play over the next few days - but overall, really pleased Jeff - thank you. :)

I've got:

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4140

Could your battery be on it's way out? I've head these Asus batteries aren't great once they start ailing.

But one thing I have noticed today is the system freezing a lot. I am running the freezefix app so I don't think it's that. Could be coincidental.

Not sure. It never does it in windows, so it's gotta be hack related, I suspect it's the same subtle differences in our hardware that cause my backlit keys not to work. I'll test those new files when I get back tomorrow :-)

could it be the new bios?

http://pikeralpha.wo...wer-management/

Good read.. The one I got my eyes on is macbookpro11, 3.  Almost the same spec as Asus N550JV, MSI GE60/GE70, Dell Alienware.

No, I had been using that before it started. I reverted to make sure and there was no change, so I'm back on it. I think this Asus is just quirky. Like I said before, I'm never buying another one. The only other bit of kit I have by them is the dark knight router- and that's running someone else's custom firmware - it's purely because of the massive spec but I didn't want their crappy firmware (google "asus rtac66u" and "dd-wrt").

Those articles are really promising. It probably won't be until the middle of next year, but I'm really really liking the look of that GS70. I wonder what kind of support that backlit keyboard will have. :-P the backlit keys are one of the selling points for me. Obviously the majority of things working, but it's got to look good and sound good. This asus doesn't- although my sub won't work in windows or linux either... I had it replaced under warranty once. That was a mistake. Asus customer care is hands down the worst I have ever experienced. They used some butt hole outsourced company who didn't even know the difference between a memory card and memory module.

Those last kexts you posted seem to work well, system is still nice and snappy. Will let you know if I run into any problems :)

Edit: Freezing has stopped with the latest files ;)

I have brightness control using that string - works well it's the backlit keys I don't have :) Everything is pretty much there, I am hoping that asusg73 will post his patched AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext because my card is sitting at about 65c. I was doing some research into the Intel HD 3000... as it happens, it's not just disabled in the BIOS, it's not physically enabled. I edited my BIOS with AMIBCP 4.5 and tried enabling it and didn't get very far, then found this:

"You cannot enable Optimus successfully. In order to have it work, all the output from the NVIDIA GPU needs to pass-thru the Optimus video path. On our mobos, the Optimus video path is bypassed, and the NVIDIA GPU feeds directly out. Ergo, the black screen when Optimus is enabled."

From an Asus rep.

http://forum.noteboo...ttling-fix.html

So never any Intel HD 3000 for us... cheers Asus :/

EDIT: For those who are interested, here is a modded BIOS for the Asus G73SW: http://www.sendspace.com/file/nay63z

YOU USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK - BIOS FLASHING CARRIES RISKS - ONLY FOR THE G73SW

It's based on Rev 205

Adds AES support

Disables BD-PROCHOT by default to stop unnecessary throttling when not under load

Reveals all the hidden BIOS options - BE CAREFUL WITH THESE - If you don't know what it does, don't touch it.

Put the file on a FAT32 formatted key drive and use the EZ-Flash option from the BIOS (don't use the win/dos utils - the BIOS is superior)

is this the bio that uses the native AICPM?

No, I posted without to give others the option. But you can patch it like I have using the app in this thread. Use the windows version of the app as apparently the Mac version isn't as good for our BIOS... http://www.insanelym...tching-utility/

Yes it is- that's what we have in the G73SWs. Anything Aptio is UEFI.

I went back to MacBookPro8,3 on a fresh install and I got all P/C States with new ssdt/dsdt.  Some reason logs is not showing turbo, but in HWMonitor is showing 27, 28, 29.  With stock AppleGraphicsPowerManagement, GPU is changing states in HWMonitor.  This is the results:

To enable LCD brightness, make sure dsdt contains PNLF device. Add this key to your boot plist and set graphics enabler to no.
