Hi guys, this is my first post here. I recently built a PC and was interested in getting Mavericks to dual boot with Windows 8. This is the configuration:

Motherboard: AsRock Z87 Pro3
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670k 3.4GHz
RAM: DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile CML8GX3M2A1600C9B 1600MHz 8GB (2x4GB) CL9
HDD: Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda

I didn't flash my motherboard,  but the BIOS has been updated to the last version available.

I also have an SSD with Windows 8 installed on, but it's unplugged.

What I did is running Mountain Lion on a Virtual Machine on this PC, got a 8 GB Cruzer USB Stick ready with myHack and then unplugged the SSD and tried to install Mac OS X Mavericks on the HDD. However after I get the boot device choosing option of myHack and choose my USB Stick to boot the Mavericks installation OS I see the Apple logo for a second and then the PC reboots. I've tried using another USB stick, and even a SATA HDD. I've tried using a lot of boot flags, and when I use -v the PC restarts at

Starting Darwin x86_64
Boot Args: boot-uuid=5D98B392-0DD6-3459-AZ44-6C444E2DE05E rd=*uuid -v

I then tried using this guide:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/280756-guide-the-all-in-one-guide-to-vanilla-os-x-including-chameleon-dsdt-for-beginners-updated-for-mavericks/

I get the same problem.

I've been working on this problem for the past 4 days. Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated.

hi

seems you 'll have to patch your bios..see several  same issues  here...http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/285444-pmpatch-uefi-patching-utility/

If you see at 10.8.0 topic you will see other colleague with some asus ans msi and asrock with the same problem..

and if you google "asrock  H87M" or Z87" mavericks"  you will see other several posts about it..

I'm waiting a little more with my asrock h87m pro4..to see if the experts find another solution..

Actually I wanted to flash it but I can't find the proper tool or even an exact tutorial on how to do it so I'm taking more time to study how to do it and then I'll give it a try.

Patching the BIOS seemed to work! If you guys have my same problem with my same motherboard here's what I did to get it working:

1. Make a USB Installation Disk with myHack

2. Download this file on Windows:

http://www.ami.com/s...ds/amiflash.zip

Open the zip and navigate to:
\amiflash\Aptio\afuwin\64\
You will find another zip, extract it to the desktop. A folder called "AfuWin64" will be created.

Now download this file:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/gb9twzg3d2rnesc/PMPatch_0.5.13_win.zip

Extract the .exe and move it in the "AfuWin64" folder on the Desktop.

3. Now right click on the folder in the desktop called "AfuWin64" while pressing Shift, and in the menu you will see "Open command window here", click it.

Now be sure to close ALL the programs you have open, even the browser you're using to read this (so I suggest to use another device to read the next steps)

4. In the CMD you opened in step 3 type this:
afuwinx64 bios.bin /o (it creates a copy of your BIOS on the computer)
pmpatch bios.bin bios-pmpatched.bin (it patches your BIOS to get past the error)
afuwinx64 bios-pmpatched.bin /gan (it flashes the patched BIOS on the motherboard)
Now reboot.
5. Follow again step 3 and use these commands to check if the BIOS has been patched correctly:

afuwinx64 bios2.bin /o
pmpatch bios2.bin bios2-pmpatched.bin
If everything worked it will tell you that the program found nothing to patch.

After you did this boot from USB and Mavericks will begin installing.  :D

EDIT: Guide updated after nettrafficer post.

Hi Ceeejaaay,

i have the asrock z87 pro3 too, and proceed your way, but at step 4. with pmpatch it will not work.

There is no file in the folder, called pmpatch ... any idea?

Thank you

Hi,

Sorry but I forgot the link to the PMPatch, I put it in the folder where I unzipped the flash utility and forgot about it. Here's the link:

https://www.mediafire.com/?8866wtwhp4wi7

After you've downloaded it drag the exe in the "AfuWin64" folder.
